NEW FOR 2020! One of this holiday season’s best new additions? The world’s largest drive-through animated light show, World of Illuminations, debuts Candy Rush! Drive through millions of lights at the new Candy Rush at Six Flags White Water.

This Christmas and candy-themed attraction features lights that are fully synchronized to holiday music.   There are also amazing light displays, including a 40-foot tall trio of candy canes!

Drive through a 500-foot long tunnel of light, that doubles as Santa’s magic portal.  You’ll see a gingerbread village, sugar plum fairies, and more beloved holiday characters.  (And there will be snow!  Well…simulated snowfall.  But still!)

This is one holiday event that is completely COVID-friendly, since you will be in your cars the entire time.  Online reservations are required.

Atlantic Station Lights

Enjoy in-person Celebration at the Station lightings every evening beginning on November 21, 2020 when you visit in person!

While you’re there, gather around Atlantic Station’s grand 50-foot tall Christmas Tree, and experience the magic of a realistic snowfall Sunday-Thursday at 6:00pm and Friday and Saturday 6:00-9:00 pm at the top of each hour. (Snow is weather permitting.)

This year, you can also gather your family with a cup of cocoa and cozy clothes and enjoy Light the Station from the comfort of your living room. The first-of-the-season tree lighting, Parade of Lights and fireworks show is coming to you ONLY on a special episode of ATL & Co. on 11Alive, Saturday, November 21st at 7 p.m.

The best part of the Atlantic Station holiday lights (other than the lights and the snow) is there is a TON to do. Visit the ice skate rink, do a little shopping, or enjoy dinner at one of 17 restaurants, visit Santa’s Cottage in Central Park.

Atlantic Station: Drive-Thru Atlanta Festival of Lights

On Dec. 4, the Pinnacle Lot will light up as Atlantic Station partners with Atlanta Beer and Wine Festivals for “Atlanta Festival of Lights,” the inaugural drive-thru light show experience and the only one inside the Perimeter this season.

With colorful displays, beautiful twinkling lights and holiday tunes filling up the car, guests can enjoy a cheerful ride through the destination.

The magical drive-thru will be open for festive guests through Jan. 18. The cost to attend is $25 per car Sunday through Thursday and $35 per car on Friday and Saturday. Tickets can be purchased here.

Atlanta Botanical Gardens: Garden Lights, Holiday Nights

The Lights at INOLA Blue Ridge

The Annual INOLA Holiday Festival and ice skating rink has been canceled for 2020. The colonial-style village was built in the 1980s, and includes historic building replicas found in Williamsburg, Virginia.

They will open the festival with tree lighting and fireworks on November 27th, and will continue through Monday, January 5th.

Step back in time as you take a leisurely INOLA stroll. Or take a spin on the ice at the INOLA ice skating rink!  Food trucks will be available on the Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

At sunset, INOLA will dazzle as holiday lights twinkle throughout the village.

Lights of Life at Life University

Take a drive through the dazzling Lights of LIFE at Life University!

More than 100 pieces with a holiday theme are displayed throughout the 1.5 mile long drive through the campus.  The display of Santa and his sleigh stands over 65 feet high, making it the tallest in the Southeast!

They don’t just have lights! They also have a petting zoo, pony rides, and a train ride offered every day for a small fee. (The petting zoo is weather dependent.)

Please note that this year, they will not have a visit with Santa offered due to COVID-19.

Holiday Lights of Hope

The Holiday Lights of Hope is a Christmas celebration benefiting the Anna Crawford Children’s Center. Five hundred families are helped by the center annually.

In 2021, you can expect all of your favorites! Kids 14 and under are free, all others are $10/person.

Lighting of the Ruins at Barnsley Resort

The holiday lights at the Barnsley Resort ruins, gardens and village shine with more than 1,000,000 twinkling lights.

On November 25, 2020, the property will host an official Lighting of the Ruins event, exclusively for resort members and overnight guests, with festive holiday entertainment, refreshments, and holiday decor.  A limited number of day passes will be available for purchase from November 29 – January 3, 2021.

Tickets can be purchased via the property’s event calendar.  As always, it is recommended to call in advance to confirm availability for the date you wish to visit.

Access to the Manor House Ruins and Gardens may be limited on weekends and holidays due to private events.  Due to COVID-19 policies, access is limited on weekends and some holidays for visitors who are not staying overnight at the resort.

Light Up Blue Ridge

Due to COVID-19, Light Up Blue Ridge will be scaled back — but there is still a lot of holiday happenings!

Light Up Blue Ridge day will be held on Nov. 28, and will be full of Christmas cheer, strolling Christmas entertainment, food vendors, and Santa in the park.

The Gingerbread Village will be open from Nov. 27 – Dec. 13, so you can see all of this year’s Gingerbread House Contest entries!

Not free, but worth every penny, you can also ride the Santa Express or the Night Train to Santa’s Pavilion on the Blue Ridge Railway.

We have to start off with this spectacular residential light display — in fact, it’s the largest residential light display in Georgia! And it’s free to enjoy!

Lights of Joy in Kennesaw is so amazing, it was featured on “The Great Christmas Light Fight” in 2019. At this residence, you’ll find 226 trees, five mega-electronic trees, a tunnel of joy, musical lights, and tons of Christmas characters. In all, Lights of Joy features 750,000 lights!

Guests can see the lights for free, and it’s handicap-accessible and dog-friendly.

You can park across the street from the home at Influencers Church, so you can walk around and see all the lights up close.

Social distancing and masks are encouraged this year.

PRISM: Winter Lights at Woodruff Park

PRISM: Winter Lights is returning to Woodruff Park this year! This 2-month-long exhibition includes light-based, water-inspired works by artists from around the country.

PRISM: Winter Lights is a FREE and public light experience. The exhibition will include three light-based sculptures installed on the park’s main lawn. Additionally, Arts & Entertainment Atlanta will pilot of projection mapping effort that will showcase the animated artwork of local artists.

Everyone is invited to explore the park either day or night, during park hours. Social distancing must be maintained.

New in 2020!  The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department announced a new holiday tradition — the inaugural “Light Up Athens” in downtown this December.

The holiday program will light up downtown Athens storefronts with lights and decorations.  Event activities will take place Fridays and Saturdays in December from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.   Lights will be illuminated each night in December.

Activities include, the community Christmas tree, holiday character appearances, an official Santa’s mailbox for children to drop off their wish lists, holiday music, and s”ELF”ie spots.

(Note: The Downtown Athens Parade of Lights has been canceled for 2020 because of COVID-19 — so this is a great alternative!)

Old Fashioned Christmas in Dahlonega

When: Nov. 27, 2020 – Jan. 18, 2021

Bedecked in thousands of twinkling lights, a show-stopping two-story Christmas tree on the square and a new-for-2020 Festival of Trees with 10-12 brightly decorated Christmas trees on display in Hancock Park, the town of Dahlonega looks and feels like a holiday wonderland.

For 2020, an extended season through January 18, 2021 (Martin Luther King Weekend) gives visitors two extra weeks to experience the town’s Hallmark-esque ambiance encouraging people to spread visits out and keep traffic and crowds to a minimum.   For an insider tip – visit during weeknights!

Residential Christmas Light Displays Near Atlanta

Economy House: A Whole Lot of Christmas (Stone Mountain) 1833 Smokerise Summit, Stone Mountain, GA. 30087. The Economy family welcomes you to see their home again in 2020! Decorated with thousands and thousands of Christmas lights, their house is lit up from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. everyday. In 2015 the family began collecting donations for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and have raised thousands of dollars for them. In addition to Make-a-Wish, the Tucker High School’s Habitat for Humanity carols one night for donations. In past years, Santa Claus has been present on Saturday and Sunday evenings in his sleigh.

Ashebrooke Night of Lights (Cumming) (Note: Nothing has been announced yet for 2020.  The following information is from 2019.) The Ashebrooke Subdivision in Cumming hosts a Night of Lights. Residents of Ashebrooke subdivision light up their streets and their homes with luminary bags & candles to put on a great display of lights in an effort to help raise money for a worthy cause.  This year’s beneficiary is to be two  families that live in the neighborhood. Both families have had a difficult year and the money raised will really help them out. In addition to the lights, they’ll have a live nativity.

Red Hawk Christmas (Dawsonville) An Animated Christmas Light Show in North Georgia. This year they have 12,000+ lights timed to several Christmas Carols. The show is free and any donations will benefit KARE for Kids. A local non-profit who gives local children in need the Christmas they deserve.

Christmas in Castille (Alpharetta) (Note: Nothing has been announced yet for 2020.  The following information is from 2019.) Weather permitting, the show runs from Nov 29th through Dec 22 between 6pm – 9pm on Thursday – Saturday. The neighborhood is gated so when the gates close for the night, the show ends. When you drive up, tune your radio to 89.9FM.

Christmas in the Grove (Decatur) The show begins on Thanksgiving night and runs through January 1 from 6:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Friday – Sunday, weather permitted. Our show has evolved from simple animation in 2010, to a light show, choreographed to some of the greatest Christmas music ever! The sound from our show can be heard in our yard and is also broadcast on 87.9 FM so that you can listen from the comfort of your car.

We were sad to learn of the death of Tony Paradowski in 2018. Christmas in the Grove will be missed. We offer our thoughts and condolences to his family during this trying season.

Christmas on Amberwood (Lawrenceville) 2 yards of lights, 70 inflatables, 23 trees, and much more. Santa and Mrs Claus will be out every Friday and Saturday night to take pictures and collect donations for daffys pet soup kitchen.

Vinyard Christmas (Lawrenceville) Let the show begin, the lights are on! They run from 5:30pm – 10pm weekdays and until 11pm on weekends every night though New Years.

Christmas on the Hill (Flowery Branch) This is the Hathcock family’s way of spreading Christmas cheer via animated light show which you can stop by and see at 6711 Willowbrook Trl. from 6-10 PM.

Holly Springs Lights (Holly Springs/Canton) (Note: Nothing has been announced yet for 2020.  The following information is from 2019.) The light show changes throughout the week. See the Facebook page for a schedule. Lights start at 6:00 and then every half hour until 10:00 or later. Cost is $5.

Mint Julep Christmas (Ball Ground) Weather permitting (no downpours), the show runs every evening through New Year’s Eve.  Sun-Thur 6pm-10pm, Fri-Sat 6pm-11pm. We have 40,000+ lights that are synchronized to music with over 20 songs and the entire show lasts just under an hour. The display is absolutely free, but donations are graciously accepted and ALL funds go to the Sibley Heart Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Felix Family Christmas Lights (Dallas) The Felix Family Christmas Lights run from Thanksgiving to New Years and are a national award winning display. The house has been featured on various websites and recognized as one of the 25 best decorated homes in America.

Ludy Christmas (Columbus) The Ludy’s have been on ABC’s The Great Christmas Light fight with over 150,000 lights that dance in sync to music. All of the displays are handmade by the creator!

Lights on Linstone (Grayson) They are fairly new, but offer a very festive light display for Halloween and Christmas! New this year is the Pixel Matrix that goes along with the Pixel Mega Tree.

Duluth’s Christmas House (Duluth) Due to the impact of COVID-19, they will not have their walk-through display, but they will still have the drive-by option going!
