BEECH MOUNTAIN SLEDDING HILL

The town of Beech Mountain, NC, is full of wintertime fun, and of the best things to do is explore the Beech Mountain Town Sledding Hill.

Beech Mountain offers the only municipal sledding hill in the southeast. The best part? It’s FREE!

The sledding hill is located next to the Beech Mountain Visitors Center, tucked behind a split rail fence. Although the hill is designed for children 12 and under, parents or other responsible adults are allowed on sleds with preschoolers.

The sled hill is open from early December through mid-March and it’s BYOS — Bring Your Own Sled.

Plastic sleds are required at the Beech Mountain sledding hill and they aren’t provided, so you need to bring or rent your own. Sleds are available for rent nearby at the Beech Meadows Ski Shop or the White Wolf Lodge, and Fred’s General Mercantile has them for sale.

Natural snow is enhanced by a snow gun when needed, so there’s plenty of good sledding to go around.

Hours of operation for the Sledding Hill are 9-5 pm Monday through Sunday and holidays, weather permitting.

SNOW TUBING AND THE BEECH MOUNTAIN ALPINE VILLAGE

There are several ski resorts in North Carolina, but Beech Mountain Ski Resort is the only one with an Alpine Village that includes shops like Ski Beech Sports and Beech Mountain Gifts, as well as restaurants, including the Beech Mountain Brewing Company and the The Lodge Cafeteria.

A great addition to the Beech Mountain Resort is their tubing park, located adjacent to the Alpine Village at the base of the mountain. The snow tubing chutes are 700 feet long with a state-of-the-art magic carpet conveyer to the top.  Kids must be 42″ to ride and cannot ride on an adult’s lap. Snow tubing sessions here are 1 hour and 45 minutes long.
