I thought I knew what to expect at Dunya Camp. Georgia has several glamping destinations, so my perception was this would be similar. It was not.
The first thing to know about Dunya Camp is that Atlanta is only 1.5 hours away. The glamping resort in Northeast Georgia is an easy jaunt off I-75 in Summerville, GA, which is near Rome.
Before we get into specifics about the camp, let’s get your mind in the right place.
Set Your Intention
Close your eyes and imagine your journey. Exit off the interstate to a four-lane, then a two-lane road. Turn onto a country lane past fields with rolls of hay, a long ago deserted barn with the roof caved in, and a church established in the 1800’s with a new building and an old cemetery.
Wind up the hill past an expansive field and a pond filled with geese. Slip between the pine trees to a small clearing where you’ll find an iron gate. Punch in the code and crunch your way up the gravel pathway, putting the vehicle into low gear as the grade becomes steeper.
At the top of the mountain, just below the clouds, you’ll find Dunya Camp.
A Sultan’s Tent
Slide the glass door and pull back the curtains to reveal a lavish room with deep colored hardwood floors. A sitting area with a bright orange couch and Turkish rug faces a wood burning stove. Behind the couch is a breakfast nook and writing desk.
To the right is a four-poster canopy bed with a gorgeous Indian-themed mural on the wall. Beyond the bed is a deep soaking tub, standing shower, double sinks and commode. Behind the bed, a stocked kitchenette with sink, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee maker.
Above the elegance is a drapery lined ceiling with classic chandeliers. The atmosphere is perfect for your romantic weekend.
Measuring Luxury
There is no need to wait for nightime to collapse onto the sumptuous bed. You are immediately engulfed in a soft hug from all sides. The bed and linens are all made by Fretta.
Not familiar with Fretta? If you’ve stayed at the St. Regis in Aspen, the Mandarin in Paris, or Blackberry Farm in Tennessee, you’ve been treated to Fretta linens. And if you haven’t, well, here is your chance.
The Art of Nothing
Outside your ‘tent’ is an unencumbered view of the pine covered mountains and blue sky. Amid a symphony of cicadas, sip that special bottle of wine you brought while enjoying the view from one of two decks. Cook a delicious meal on the outdoor grill and dine al fresco at the table. You don’t want to leave Dunya Camp for food.
After dinner, watch the sunset soaking in the hot tub, then slip into a soft Fretta robe to stargaze from a seat next to the fire-pit.
In the morning, sweat it out in the barrel sauna while gazing out the window to the butterflies fluttering from flower to flower. As you sip your coffee, watch the small green lizard as he jumps from the deck to a flower, falls and repeats the process.
