COOLEST PLACES TO STAY IN BLUE RIDGE
- Best for Foodies. Hampton Inn Blue Ridge is located in the heart of downtown Blue Ridge and features an amazing rooftop restaurant, Hook & Eye. With “burgers, brews, and beautiful views,” this is one restaurant you don’t want to miss. You’ll enjoy a free breakfast buffet at this hotel as well.
- Great Location. Comfort Inn & Suites is a pet-friendly family hotel just a few minutes from the downtown area, and even closer to Mercier Orchards and the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.
- Beautiful Mountain Views. The Blue Ridge Lodge and RV Park is about 5 miles from downtown, but the area does offer great views and is close enough to be convenient to all the festivals and fun you can find in town. The Lodge is quaint and all the rooms are furnished differently, unlike the more mainstream feel of a chain hotel. There are cottages, a RV park, and a lake house, too.
GO HORSEBACK RIDING
One way to get out and see the beautiful region is by taking a ride on the many trails. Horseback riding can be very romantic and memorable for couples.
Couples can enjoy the great outdoors without the effort of hiking, relaxing on horseback while covering all kinds of territory. Trail rides together along rivers, through rolling hills and lush meadows, is a shared experience you’re not likely to forget.
There are several horseback riding companies in the Blue Ridge area that offer special packages for couples. They have options for group rides, private rides, picnic lunches and even some proposal packages where they’ll create a romantic atmosphere with lights in trees, flowers, and even champagne, based on your input.

EXPLORE ON A HIKE
If you think riding horses together will bond you as a couple, wait until you take off on a hike together. There’s nothing quite like spending a few hours traipsing through the woods, crossing creeks and climbing rocks together to help you really get to know each other.
The Blue Ridge Mountains are home to some of the most scenic hiking trails in the U.S. with breathtaking views all around. The sense of adventure and excitement of exploring together can do wonders to connect you. And there are plenty of trails to conquer together in and around Blue Ridge.
Long Creek Falls is ideal if you’re looking to make your way to a romantic waterfall. It’s the most popular one in Fannin County, and it’s located on the Appalachian Trail near the Three Forks where the Appalachian, Benton MacKaye and Duncan Ridge Trails meet.
Amicalola Falls is a must for couples who want to enjoy the third tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi River. And the Toccoa River Swinging Bridge Trail is another great spot for couples to make their way along. If you make the drive in, the hike is very easy down to the suspension bridge that spans the Toccoa and offers beautiful views of the river and surrounding mountains. Hiking to the suspension bridge is going to be a lot more challenging, but doable.
Overall, hiking together can add a sense of adventure and excitement to your relationship, while also getting in some fitness that’ll release some endorphins and improve your mood, while unplugging from daily life and its distractions. Plus, when you make it to your end point, the shared sense of accomplishment and satisfaction is worth celebrating together.

PONTOON ON LAKE BLUE RIDGE
If you’d prefer to spend your time on the water instead of in the woods, Lake Blue Ridge is going to be the place you’ll want to head together. A romantic ride on the water is my idea of the perfect way to spend the day, and you don’t even have to bring your own boat here. That’s because you can rent a pontoon boat at the Lake Blue Ridge Marina and not worry about all the hassle of boat ownership otherwise.
Pontoon boats are ideal for relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous scenery around the lake, including all the million dollar homes peppering the shores. You can rent for a half-day or full-day, or take an evening sunset cruise if you prefer.
No matter how long you choose to go out, the idea is the same: connect with each other and let the stress of day-to-day life dissolve around you. You can pack a lunch and kick back, either drifting through the water or while you drop anchor, and keep your eye out for eagles and ospreys in the area.
Some of the pontoon rental companies will even offer special packages while you’re on board, including rose petals, champagne or a private dinner. What an ideal way to relax and spend a few hours together.

RIDE THE BLUE RIDGE SCENIC RAILWAY
One of the most famous parts of this mountain town is the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway train. The train depot is set up in the heart of downtown Blue Ridge and you can reserve tickets in advance.
If you’re enjoying this time without kids, you can even ride in the adults-only train. If you take that, ask for the “Romance on the Rails” package that gets you a private table for two, a four-course dinner, and a bottle of wine. It’s intimate and enjoyable. It’s a popular treat for couples, so be sure to reserve tickets in advance. It’s only available on certain dates, so keep that in mind, too.
With all of these special offerings, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway can be romantic and even nostalgic. It’ll take you on a journey through the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, offering up stunning views of the surrounding countryside while you sit back and relax this historic mode of travel.
The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway has vintage rail cars and steam locomotives, and they’ll take you and your honey through historic towns and the countryside at a nice, slow pace you don’t typically see in this day and age.

SAMPLE THE CIDERS OF BLUE RIDGE
A fun way to spend a few hours in Blue Ridge is sampling the ciders you can find at the local orchards and cideries.
Many people head to Mercier Orchards with their kids to pick apples, but if you can leave the kids at home and spend time with your honey, trying the ciders instead puts a different twist on your day. There are other cideries, of course, but Mercier is one of the most popular, since it’s been around for more than 70 years.
The hard ciders are especially fun, with some made from their apples that they’re so well-known for, but also other fruits they grow, like peaches and blackberries. They also offer tours of their orchards and cider-making facilities, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the cider-making process.
Bear Claw Vineyards & Winery is another option, along with Appalachian Cidery and Deep Roots Orchard.

TASTE THE FLAVORS OF BLUE RIDGE
You can go beyond tasting ciders and fill your belly with some of the great eats in the area, too. In fact, the Blue Ridge Mountain Food Tour is an easy way to sample some of the best food and drink in the area.
The local food scene here is packed with local farm-to-table options and you’ll definitely want to get a taste of the unique flavors of the area.
Many restaurants and eateries offer fresh and delicious offerings that come from area farms, orchards, and wineries. The food tour makes it easy to taste a variety of dishes and flavors while learning about the history and culture of the area.
And if that doesn’t fill your belly, you can stop by the local farmers’ markets and buy some of your own ingredients for your next meal. The Blue Ridge Farmers’ Market is a great place to pick up fresh produce, baked goods, and artisanal foods. And don’t forget the breweries! There are plenty in Blue Ridge and they’re worth a stop.

KAYAK THE LAKE
Another option for couples that’ll get you on the water, but in a more active role, is to kayak the lake.
The Morganton Point Recreation Area is the perfect place to base yourself while you go on your kayak adventure on Lake Blue Ridge. They offer more than just kayaking, though. They also offer fishing, hiking, and you can have a picnic, too.
Kayak rentals are available at the rec area, and couples can even choose a tandem kayak to really push that togetherness. Or, you can take single kayaks and just row side by side.
After you paddle your way around the lake, taking in all the stunning views, you’ll likely work up an appetite, so take advantage of the picnic tables and grills, or head to the restaurant at the marina.
CATCH A SHOW AT THE THEATER
Another fun thing to do on your romantic getaway is a stop at the Blue Ridge Community Theater. It’s a historic venue located in the heart of downtown Blue Ridge and is a cultural institution for many residents in the area, along with repeat visitors to the region.
There are a variety of shows and performances throughout the year, from live music to comedy shows to film screenings. Couples can check the theater’s schedule to see what shows are playing and buy tickets in advance to make sure they get good seats. You can get dressed up and soak up the creative arts scene in the area.
The actual theater is historic and beautiful with art deco architecture to add to the ambience, plus there are great shops and restaurants nearby to enjoy, as well.
