The boys and I were in Blairsville recently, staying at Vogel State Park. While there, we took a side trip to nearby Helton Creek Falls. What beautiful falls for such a short hike! They are less than a 1/4 mile from the parking lot.
Helton Creek Falls are comprised of an upper and lower section. We walked to the lower section, where the boys spent over an hour playing in the water. The rocks are a little slippery, so bring appropriate shoes. Since my boys are young, I encouraged them to play away from the base of the falls, out in the shallow pools that formed from the spillage. The dug in the sand, skipped rocks on the water, and splashed about to their heart’s content!
After a long while we decided to head up the trail only about 100 yards to the upper falls. The upper falls are not as wide, but still amazingly beautiful. They fall farther, and you can’t play in this area. No worries, it’s majestic to see, and there is plenty of fun to be had in the lower falls area. In fact, I wish we had brought a picnic and stayed even longer!
