HIKING FOXHALL RESORT ON A GIRLFRIEND GETAWAY
My friend and I had not seen each other in over a year, but we immediately fell back into comfortable conversation for two hours while hiking the beautiful countryside, never on the same trail twice. We meandered along the Chattahoochee River, discovered paths within the hardwood forest, and moseyed down to see the horses in between raindrops.
After a flavorful dinner at the resort restaurant Pheasant Blue, the air turned cold and windy, perfect for curling up on the couch overlooking the lake in one of Foxhall’s two bedroom villas. Under a comfy blanket with a glass of wine, we caught up on kids and husbands, reliving old times and creating new memories.

DESTINATION WEDDING CLOSE TO ATLANTA
Foxhall Resort is a popular wedding destination, and there is good reason. It would be hard to choose between the two main wedding venues – one an exquisitely renovated stable looking out over a spring fed lake, and the other more rustic venue sits atop a hill looking out over a meadow next to the Chattahoochee River.
Both venues have outside wood fireplaces with café lighting adding to the romance of the evening.
FAMILY-STYLE FISHING
I always say, kids and dogs just need space, and Foxhall Resort has plenty of it. In addition to letting them run wild exploring the grounds, rent fishing polls and tackle (or bring your own) and go catch and release on Lunker Lake, a professionally managed trophy bass lake. Shhh….the secret fishing spot is the spring fed lake by the stable wedding venue.
Evenings at this Georgia resort are reserved for family game night. There is outdoor chess or Connect Four on the pool deck, as well as a giant scrabble board in the clubhouse lobby (I won Scrabble, just saying). Everyone is a winner with s’mores over the extra large fire pit. I may or may not have indulged in two.

TENNIS (OR PICKLEBALL) GETAWAY TO FOXHALL RESORT
Start your morning with a few laps in the 25-yard infinity pool that appears to spill into Lunker Lake to loosen up for the big tournament.
Afternoon is a round robin on the three well-maintained tennis courts. Maybe pickleball is more your game – there are two of those courts too.
Recover with a cocktail from the outdoor bar and a dip in the hot tub or heated conversation pool before heading to dinner at Pheasant Blue, the onsite farm-to-table restaurant. I highly recommend the salmon filet and a glass of chardonnay.
AN OUTDOORSMAN’S ZION
Foxhall Resort is an outdoorsman/woman’s paradise. In season, the sporting club offers quail, dove, pheasant and deer hunting on over 2000 acres of managed and maintained land that includes open fields, grassy meadows, and hardwood forest.
Practice wing shooting at the first ever Beretta Trident Course. They have a 15-station clay shooting course, or 5-stand sporting clays and wobble trap.
There is also a stationary and 3D Archery course. If you don’t have one, you can rent a compound bow. For those who prefer motors, Foxhall Resort has guided ATV tours around the 1,100 acre resort.
JUST ENOUGH ACTIVITY FOR A ROMANTIC ESCAPE
The comfy beds with fluffy pillows and balconies that overlook the lake are a perfect home base for a special weekend.
Take a kayak, canoe or paddleboard out on Legacy Lake. Get an adrenaline rush in this old fashion swimmin’ hole by swinging into the crystal water via the hidden rope swing. In the afternoon, take a property tour on horseback.
After dinner, grab a cocktail and head to the sports lawn for some friendly competition. My sport of choice is bocce ball, but there are horseshoes and even croquet – no whites needed.
BRING THE OFFICE FOR A CORPORATE RETREAT
If all this sounds like the perfect setting for a company meeting or retreat, it is. In addition to rental facilities like the wedding venues, Foxhall Resort has private homes and outbuildings that can be rented for a variety of corporate events. As you can see, there is plenty of opportunities for team building and activities no matter your interest.
