When my husband and I got married, we lived in Maui, one of the most romantic destinations in the world. And where did we go on our honeymoon? Tennessee.
I’m from Middle Tennessee and was excited to show my new spouse the far corners of the state, places that always felt a bit romantic and wild – places that were perfect for a couple’s getaway.
Now we live in Tennessee and travel together any chance we get. Couples of all backgrounds and styles can find an idyllic vacation here, whether you’re on a budget or looking for a splurge-worthy vacation.
Ahead I’m sharing the best Tennessee towns and hotels to visit with your sweetheart. Who knows? You just might discover your new favorite place. Here are 9+ romantic getaways in TN that you and your partner will love!
GO HERE: PIGEON FORGE
When planning a romantic trip, I look for places that strike a balance between restful and adventurous. A Smoky Mountain getaway in Pigeon Forge is perfect for this.
The mountainside town features excellent hotels and cabins, amazing country cooking, and of course Dollywood, the theme park designed and owned by Queen Dolly Parton.
The simple, ample food options make it so easy to get out the door and eat, meaning your romantic getaway won’t be spoiled by hungry indecisiveness.
All in all, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is a simple place to visit for couples who enjoy touristy attractions and beautiful scenery.

STAY HERE: RIVERSTONE RESORT & SPA
While many couples travel to the Smoky Mountains in search of the perfect, secluded cabin, some prefer the convenience and luxury of a resort. The Riverstone Resort & Spa offers world-class amenities and romantic tranquility right in the heart of Pigeon Forge.
There is a full-service spa with couples treatments, an indoor pool, an outdoor lazy river, and a nature trail. This is just five minutes away from Dollywood, mini golf, shopping, and dining.

GO HERE: SEVIERVILLE
If you prefer a quieter Smoky Mountain getaway, Sevierville is the place to go. Sure, you can hop into town for the fun-filled adventures that await there, but you can easily retreat back to your rural accommodations.
Sevierville has several places to go horseback riding through the woods, and true adventurers can get a bird’s eye view of the countryside on a bi plane ride. These restored barnstormers seat two passengers, so you can soar across the sky with your one true love.

GO HERE: KNOXVILLE
I never really imagined Knoxville as a romantic place until I spent a little more time there. After all, it’s a college town, and it’s so close to the Smoky Mountains that you might as well venture on toward the National Park area.
I was wrong.
To merely drive through Knoxville is to miss out on some of the state’s best romance. Downtown Knoxville is a great place to stroll around, eat at unique locations, and grab a cocktail.
But it’s on the outskirts of Knoxville where you’ll find a truly romantic getaway…

STAY HERE: BLACKBERRY FARM
Paris, Venice, and Knoxville? That’s right, Knoxville is home to Blackberry Farm, named among the most romantic resorts in the world.
Located in the Great Smoky Mountains, this 5,200-acre, award winning property offers an unrivaled sense of escape.
Blackberry Farm is not a place for budget travelers or passersby. It’s a pricey stay with a 3-night minimum booking. But if you’re looking to splurge, this is the place. Incredible food, drinks, and activities abound here. Hike, paint, sip, and connect to your partner in a new, luxurious way.

GO HERE: NASHVILLE
Nashville is great for couples who like to stay busy during their vacations.
You don’t have to be a country music fan to enjoy the Music City, but it certainly doesn’t hurt, either. Stroll through downtown Nashville, the Country Music Hall of Fame, visit the Grand ole Opry, stop into the Johnny Cash Museum, or go to one of the many Broadway restaurants owned by country stars.
But Nashville is more than its music scene. Couples will love exploring the grounds of the Opryland Hotel, especially in the winter when the atriums fill with warm light. On pretty days, walk around Centennial Park or head over to the Bicentennial Mall Farmers Market.
With a mix of hole-in-the-wall eateries and ritzy fine dining experiences, Nashville is ideal for foodie couples too.

STAY HERE: THE HERMITAGE HOTEL
The Hermitage Hotel offers a vintage, artistic charm you may be surprised to find in Nashville. Just a few blocks away, party buses carry bachelorette parties through music-filled streets. But here at the Hermitage, there is a quiet kind of glamor – an approachable luxury that couples will adore.
This National Historic Landmark is nestled between the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and the impressive Nashville Public Library. And inside is a glimmer of magic along with modern accommodations and delicious dining.

GO HERE: CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga is my favorite place to take a romantic weekend getaway, especially in the spring and fall. Outdoorsy couples will love the many hiking trails, parks, and city spaces that make Chattanooga so special.
You could easily spend your entire trip pursuing the various neighborhoods along the Tennessee River, where romance, food, drink, and cute shops await.
Couples can also retreat to the mountains, where there are so many places to hike and sightsee. Go to Ruby Falls, Rock City, or Point Park, a Civil War Battlefield with incredible history and views.

If you like your hotels with a lot of personality, it’s worth taking a trip to Chattanooga just to stay at the Dwell Hotel. This boutique hotel is located downtown and fully embraces a vibrant, mid-century aesthetic.
Each of its 16 rooms has its own theme, and the common areas feature even more Instagram-worthy styling.
Reviewers rave over The Dwell Hotel’s outstanding service and comfortable accommodations, all while being conveniently located near Chattanooga’s best restaurants, bars, and attractions.

GO HERE: MEMPHIS
Memphis, Tennessee, has it all: fantastic food, incredible history, and lots of fun attractions. Going during warm weather will allow you to get the most out of the city: its world class zoo, charming mud island, and vibrant Beale Street.
But you can have a fun and romantic vacation here any time of the year. Explore Elvis’s Graceland, visit the National Civil Rights Museum, eat world-famous Rendezvous BBQ, and check out the March of the Peabody Ducks.
Memphis is where the real music fans go, and it’s also where you can get the country’s best soul food and exceptional southern hospitality.

STAY HERE: THE JAMES LEE HOUSE
Romance is easily rekindled at The James Lee House, a boutique bed & breakfast that will transport you in place and time. This Victorian home was built in the mid-1800s and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today it serves as a welcoming place for Memphis visitors to stay. It’s the perfect spot in Tennessee for couples.
The suites feel elegant and true to the home’s Victorian style, but they’re also comfortable thanks to the full bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and climate control. It’s the perfect balance of historical refinement and modern comfort, plus breakfast is included and totally delicious.

GO HERE: JOHNSON CITY
If you love beautiful scenery, trendy neighborhoods, and rich history, Johnson City is a must-visit.
Located in East Tennessee on the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Johnson City features impressive hiking trails and parks, like Tweetsie Trail and Gray Fossil Site and Museum. The local college scene makes for a really fun vibe, so you can explore local breweries and try delicious food.
STAY HERE: CARNEGIE HOTEL
The Carnegie Hotel welcomed ritzy mountain travelers to Johnson City for nearly two decades at the turn of the twentieth century. It had a Downton Abbey vibe with a warm Appalachian charm.
A fire destroyed the original Carnegie Hotel in 1910, but today a thoughtful and majestic replica stands in its place, inviting guests to have an old-world travel experience with modern comforts. Guests especially love the outdoor swimming pool and the onsite restaurant, Wellington’s.

GO HERE: GATLINBURG
When I honeymooned in the Smoky Mountains, we booked a cabin right between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and we ended up spending most of our time in Gatlinburg.
We walked along the main strip, explored the Arts & Crafts Community, and enjoyed the views located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This is the perfect getaway for any weather, since you can drive through most of the park but get out and explore anytime.
Here in Gatlinburg, you can cross the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America, ride on a creaky old alpine roller coaster, creek stomp in ice-cold water, and maybe even see bears and other wildlife.

STAY HERE: TREEHOUSE GROVE
Sure, you’re heading to Gatlinburg for a romantic getaway, but that doesn’t mean you can’t include some childlike fun too. Get back to nature in a fun and unique way by staying at Treehouse Grove.
This vacation rental property was designed by “TreeHouse Master” Pete Nelson and features hot tubs, a glistening creek, and a serene forest.
You’ll feel like you’re away from it all, but it’s still super close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, so you can still have a well-rounded vacation while staying in one of Tennessee’s best treehouse rentals.

GO HERE: SMITHVILLE
There’s something special about vacationing in a true small town— a quiet place with a lot of warmth and charm – a place like Smithville, Tennessee.
Smithville’s main tourism draw is Evins Mill Resort, which we’ll talk about in a moment. But don’t forget to enjoy all this town has to offer and appreciate the peacefulness of Tennessee’s small-town life while you’re here.
You can visit a cute farm and creamery, along with a couple of antique shops and general stores. But you don’t go to Smithville to do things; you visit to get away from everything.
Smithville, Tennessee, is about an hour east of Nashville.
STAY HERE: EVINS MILL RESORT
If you feel like you and your partner need a true retreat, then Smithville offers one of the most romantic getaways in Tennessee. Here you’ll find Evins Mill Resort, a quiet rural property that offers tranquil creekside accommodations in the lush Tennessee woods.
Hike along the property’s trails, swim under a waterfall, relax by a campfire, dine at their all-day restaurant, or cuddle up in your rustic yet comfortable room. It’s a place that allows you to get close to nature without all the hustle and bustle of a tourist town.

GO HERE: SEWANEE
Sewanee is a mountain town with a lot of heart, and couples looking for a unique romantic getaway should definitely check it out. With miles of hiking trails, quaint cafes, and amazing views, Sewanee is one of Tennessee’s best small towns.
Located about 45 minutes Northwest of Chattanooga, Sewanee is a great place for a weekend getaway. You’ll love exploring the University of the South, with its mix of gothic architecture and New England collegiate vibes.
