DISCOVER CANE CREEK FALLS
Cane Creek Falls is a pretty, short stop when in Dahlonega. It was not at all what I expected…we found ourselves weaving around a Methodist Church Camp/Retreat to get to the falls. The GPS took us in a back way, but upon finding the front entrance and speaking with the folks at the visitor center, they welcome “outsiders” to the falls area. (PS. There are restrooms in this visitor area.)
You will park in the designated parking area for the falls, and walk a short boardwalk to the viewing area. You can then follow the road to the approach “trails” to get down to the falls. I put trails in quotes because it is a short 100-yard walk.
Down by the falls you can get a few photos, and get close to the water’s edge. Unfortunately, you are not able to play in the water or swim here. That was a difficult rule for my young boys to understand, so I was glad that the weather was on the cool side.
I consider this more of a Roadside Attraction than a waterfall/hike…but if you are in the area, it is worth a stop.
Cane Creek Falls is also the home of Camp Glisson, which offers Summer Camp and year-round retreat experiences in the forests surrounding Cane Creek Falls near Dahlonega, Georgia.
Close by in the neighboring state of Tennessee, you will find Fall Creek Falls State Park. At 256 feet, Fall Creek Falls is one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States. Learn more about the falls and others in our post 13 Amazing Waterfalls in Tennessee You Should Chase.
