Museums are a great place for everyone in the family. Benefits include fostering a love of art and history, encouraging thoughtful conversation, inspiring creativity and so much more. Atlanta is lucky to have the High Museum, arguably the best art museum in the Southeast. Membership at the High Museum of Art is geared toward people in all stages of life, from kiddos to seniors, with packages of varying prices.
Starting with a General Dual/Family Membership at $110, up to two people and their children or grandchildren, 17 years and younger, can enjoy member benefits and four one-time-use guest passes. Lesli and her family purchased a High Museum membership and adore it – here are the 11 reasons they made that decision.
Save Some Dough
You save money! General admission is $14.50 per person. A family of four would only have to visit the High twice in one year to spend more than the General Dual/Family Membership fee. This means any visit thereafter would be FREE, as Memberships include unlimited admission to museum collections, special exhibitions, and Friday Jazz. From rainy-day family excursions to date night escapes, the High delivers!
First In The Know
Members receive special invitations to exclusive previews and events, as well as a free subscription to HighLife magazine, and more.
Discounts On Gifts & Food
Who doesn’t love special discounts? Membership to the High gets you 10% off in the Museum Shops and Cafe. It also entitles you to special offers on gift memberships. Museum memberships make for such a great gift idea!
The opportunity to immerse yourself and family in the arts. Spring and summer art camps, workshops, and classes—The High offers tons of learning opportunities for all ages. Members receive discounted tuition.
Build A Budding Artist Early
It’s never too early to expose your little one to art. Even infants will enjoy getting out of the house and being stimulated by the colors and shapes in many works of art. The High offers a special gallery just for families, in addition to special programming for kids of all ages—from Toddler Thursdays to TEEN-only Open Studios. The entire family can take the docent-led daily HIGHlights tour at 1 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday; no reservation required.
Bring Your Friends
Something to do! Is it cold outside? Relatives in town? Art museums are a great place to have a playdate, take guests or just kill a couple of hours. The family membership offers 4 guest passes.
With both indoor and outdoor spaces, as part of the High and Woodruff Arts Center, there are spaces for kids to blow off steam, enjoy a meal, take a class and of course, view the exhibits…all perfect playdate ingredients. Plan your visit ahead of time. The website has a Create-a-Map section, where you can save artworks & create maps. Simply log in to save favorites to your account.
Have Membership, Will Travel
Reciprocal Membership includes reciprocal membership benefits at more than 1,200 museums across North America, starting with the $170 Contributing Dual/Family Membership. This is perfect for the family who travels and wants something fun and free to do/experience.
Parking can get expensive in Midtown Atlanta. Members receive discounted parking at $8 (versus around $15), in the Woodruff Arts Center parking garage during Museum hours. Don’t forget…street parking is free for everyone on Sundays. Another great option is hopping on MARTA. The Art Center Station is just across the street from the High.
Complimentary caregivers benefits. Choose the Family Membership level and get free entrance for your babysitter or nanny, allowing them to bring kids for toddler time, family tours and special activities.
Expand Your Artistic Horizons
The High Museum is part of Woodruff Arts Center and being a Member entitles you discounts on select tickets to the Alliance Theatre and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performances.
Bring A Friend And A Lincoln
The more the merrier. Invite your friends! Once you’ve used up any free guest passes that come with your Membership, admission is just $5 per ticket for up to five guests per visit. This makes it the perfect place for an inexpensive moms group playdate or to bring your out-of-town guests.
If you’re not sure that a membership is for you, go visit one weekend. THEN, when you fall in love with it like we have, you can turn in those tickets before you leave and apply the cost towards a membership. It’s the perfect “try before you buy” opportunity.

Disclosure: We are happy to work with the High Museum of Art as a 365 Atlanta Family Ambassador. The High is an amazing place for kids (and adults) to enjoy world class art. We wrote about Memberships because the site owner bought her family a membership and believes it’s one of the best things she’s done!
After 18 years in software development, Lesli bailed on the corporate scene. When she’s not traveling, she’s hiking in the mountains or checking out Atlanta’s culinary scene, whiskey in hand.
Lesli has two kiddos -Cooper and Elliot- plus two bonus kids currently at UGA, and she’s happily married to her soul mate.
