Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Boone, NC, is a charming college town known for its amazing outdoor adventures, family-friendly activities, great downtown shopping, and delicious local dining establishments.
There is so much to do in Boone, and you’re going to want a great place to relax and refresh before you head out for more exploring. That’s where Graystone Lodge comes in.
We had a chance to spend a weekend at Graystone Lodge and it was the perfect home base for all of our Boone adventures. We truly cannot wait to go back.
Graystone Lodge isn’t just any old hotel. This spot is loaded with local touches, so you’ll feel like you’re really getting to know the town and what it’s all about during your visit. We loved it, and we know you will too. Here are 5+ of the best reasons you’ll love a stay at Graystone Lodge during your next visit to the High Country.
1. Graystone Lodge’s Evolution is Worth Knowing About
I mentioned that there are lots of local touches at Graystone Lodge — which I’ll get to more in a moment — but Graystone Lodge itself is…local!
Graystone Lodge was a major part of the tourist boom in Boone when it was built in 1987, before eventually transitioning to a hotel collection for many years. In 2023, Graystone Lodge underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation — taking it back to its original name and returning to the welcoming ambiance it was known for.
Now you’ll find mountain lodge vibes, but with a more modern design and upscale amenities. Basically, you’ll find the best of both worlds!

2. Location, Location, Location
Graystone Lodge is located on Highway 105 in Boone, NC, and its location is perfect for exploring Downtown or venturing out to some of the area’s most popular attractions.
We loved that it was a quick 5-minute drive to Downtown Boone and all of the fun shops and restaurants that can be found there. (Shout out to FizzEd and its Sloppy Joe Dip! Our family loved it.)
It was a scenic 30-minute drive to Grandfather Mountain from here too. Linville Caverns is about 40 minutes away and Tweetsie Railroad is just a quick 10-minute drive away. Boone is home to Appalachian State University, and you’re only a few minutes from its campus and sporting events. We visited the Land of Oz during our visit, which was only about 40 minutes away. Basically, no matter your reasons for visiting, Graystone Lodge is the centralized location you’re looking for.
3. Graystone Lodge’s Dedication to Local Goods is Awesome
As soon as you walk in to Graystone Lodge, you can immediately tell you’re somewhere special. It is evidenced by the local artwork on the walls, the complimentary coffee from local Hatchet Coffee Roasters, and even the products in their market — candles, scone mix, and tile ornaments — are from local crafters and creatives.
And those are just the things you’ll notice in the lobby! Throughout Graystone Lodge, you’ll find local influences — from the water in your room (from sustainable Appalachian Mountain water company Simple Wtr.), to baked goods at the complimentary breakfast (from Stick Boy Bread Co.), to the local photography you’ll find throughout the lodge.
4. Beautiful Rooms
The rooms at Graystone Lodge are beautifully decorated with custom furniture and everything you need in a home away from home.
You’ll find comfortable beds and linens of course, but you’ll also find awesome backlit headboards that display a mountain scene, a sound machine next to your bed, and the best pillows! The rooms here feel very spacious too, and every inch is used to maximize its usefulness. Need an extra seat? There’s a rolling ottoman under the bedside table.
We loved the comfortable chair in the room with the side table and put it to good use daily. There’s not only plenty of space, but you’ll also find plenty of places for storing your belongings — which makes the room feel even bigger.
The bathrooms are gorgeous and include Beekman 1802 skincare products for your use during your stay.
Additionally, you’ll also find plenty of charging ports, individual bedside lamps and lights, a coffee machine, microwave, mini fridge, and ironing board and iron.
Graystone Lodge has 98 rooms and 3 suites and lots of great room options. Choose between a King Room, a Two Queens Room, a Luxury King Suite with Peleton, or a King Family Bunkbed Suite for families with little ones. Whether you’re a solo traveler or traveling with kids — they’ve got something for you.

5. Graystone Lodge’s Amenities are the Best
Throw out everything you think about hotel breakfast buffets. The High Country Breakfast at Graystone Lodge is phenomenal, and I do not use that word lightly.
The complimentary breakfast options at Graystone Lodge are amazing. You’ll find everything — sausage, eggs, quiche, doughnuts, muffins, fruit, hash browns, cereal, biscuits and gravy, a yogurt parfait bar, waffles, bagels and bread from Stick Boy Bread Co., juices and coffee, and so much more. You wake up and feel like you’ve won the breakfast lottery. We tried it all out for you (in the name of research!) and can assure you it’s all great.
Once you’ve finished up breakfast, there are other great amenities to check out as well.
The indoor heated pool is beautiful and you can enjoy it year-round. There’s also a great fitness center on site. We loved the outdoor fire pit area, and they sell s’more kits in their market. I mentioned the local artwork that can be found throughout the hotel, but they also have a wall of it near the lobby that can be purchased to take home.
We arrived on a Friday evening, and were happy to find The Ham Shoppe food truck on property. They make the most delicious sandwiches!! It was so great to be able to try out a local establishment right away, and my family enjoyed their sandwiches at the Outdoor Dining Area near the Fire Pit. It was all so cozy and the perfect way to start our stay.
Several rooms at Graystone Lodge are pet friendly, and they have a great little area just for your four-legged family members here too.
