Disney World is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. Everyone knows Disney caters to children, but what about adults? Is Disney World even for adults?
The answer is: Absolutely! There are plenty of amazing things for adults to do at Walt Disney World in Florida. With roller coasters and rides, great restaurants, shopping, special events, delicious cocktails, and fabulous resorts, there is plenty to do in Walt Disney World for adults.
Ready to learn more about Disney for adults? Here are 17 things to do that you are guaranteed to love!
PICK A WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT HOTEL WITH GREAT ADULT AMENITIES
There are over 30 resorts on Walt Disney World property. The resorts range from value to moderate to deluxe. The value resorts offer the most basic amenities; no table service dining or indoor lounge is available. Adults visiting Disney may want to bypass the value resorts. These resorts are filled with large families, since they have the lowest price point and offer kid-friendly theming.
Moderate resorts at Disney are the mid-tier price point. They offer amenities and affordability, making them a great option for both families and adults without kids. The deluxe resorts offer the best of the best — great amenities, restaurants, and more.
Here are some of our favorite resorts for an adults-only Disney trip.
ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE
Get a travel agent to book you a stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a six-story resort featuring live animals roaming on the savanna outside. Some rooms have terraces overlooking the savanna, which give guests a view of amazing animals like the giraffe, zebra, and wildebeest. Animal Kingdom Lodge is a deluxe resort.
The lodge is home to three very unique restaurants. One of the most popular restaurants at Disney, Boma-Flavors of Africa, is located in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Boma-Flavors of Africa is inspired by over 50 African countries. Watch the chefs in the open-air kitchen prepare healthy vegetarian dishes and rotisserie meat.
Boma is open for breakfast and dinner, both services being a buffet. They offer breakfast items like pancakes, waffles, and eggs with an African twist. Dinner service begins at 5:00 PM and provides a wide array of options. North African cauliflower salad, peanut rice, and Senagalase Yassa-style Salmon are just a few items available at the buffet.
Jiko-The Cooking Place is a signature dining restaurant at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Disney refers to its finer dining establishments as signature dining. Boasting the finest collection of African wines outside of Africa, Jiko offers a wine tasting every Wednesday from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM. At this tasting, guests will sample three delicious wines from South Africa paired with wine and cheese. The cost for this experience is $25.
Items on Jiko’s menu include roasted squash bisque, Botswana Seswaa short rib, and African Drum’ Beets’, a strawberry beet dessert.
The third restaurant rounding out Animal Kingdom Lodge is Sanaa. Sanaa is a unique restaurant because guests have views of the animals roaming the savanna while dining.
Sanaa serves food with an Indian and African twist. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room give guests a glimpse of the wild scenery outside. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at Sanaa. One must-eat item while dining at Sanaa is the Indian-style Bread Service appetizer. This appetizer gives you an option of five different pieces of bread to choose from. The bread is served with 19 accompaniments, like garlic pickle and mango chutney. The accompaniments range from mild to very, very spicy.

FOUR SEASONS RESORT ORLANDO
Although not owned by Disney, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando is still an official Disney World Hotel. For adults looking for a Disney vacation, but who don’t want to be immersed in the magic 24/7, the Four Seasons Orlando would be a perfect choice.
After relaxing in the lazy river or sliding down the thrilling waterslides, de-stress in a private cabana for even more privacy and relaxation. Shopaholics will love the various boutiques located within the hotel. There is even a way for guests to talk to a stylist who will put an outfit together and deliver it straight to the guest’s room.
Capa is a rooftop steakhouse with two outdoor terraces offering marvelous views of the fireworks. There is a live musician on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Ravello is an Italian restaurant that uses flour imported from Italy for its pizzas and pasta.

PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT
Port Orleans Riverside Resort is a moderate-tier resort in the Disney Springs area. The hotel is enormous and has two separate sections, the Alligator Bayou and the Magnolia Bend. Even though Port Orleans Riverside is a moderate resort, it has a feel of elegance similar to that of the deluxe Grand Floridian.
The buildings in Magnolia Bend were designed to look like beautiful plantation mansions. The rooms in these mansions are called Royal guest rooms. Inside the room are items from classic Disney princess films, like the genie lamp and carpet from Aladdin.
Port Orleans Riverside is home to the table service restaurant Boatwright’s Dining Hall. Boatwright’s is a warm, intimate restaurant, perfect for adults vacationing in Disney World. The menu features traditional cajun fare like jambalaya and gumbo, as well as a full-service bar.
The River Roost Lounge is where adults can relax, order a drink, and enjoy live music from Yehaa Bob Jackson. Bob Jackson is an icon at Port Orleans Riverside Resort and has been performing there for many years. For 1.5 hours, Bob Jackson puts on a funny, silly show that will have everyone singing and clapping.
Surrey bike rentals are available, as well as horse-drawn carriage rides. Reservations can be arranged for the carriage ride, or the driver can sell tickets directly. Only cash or room charge is accepted.
Disney Springs is a short boat ride away from the resort, and at Disney Springs, adults at Disney will find many bars and shops to visit, like House of Blues, The Boathouse, The Edison, and more.

TAKE A DISNEY TOUR
Magic Kingdom Park offers a behind-the-scenes tour called Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom. This tour costs $114 per person, and reservations should be made in advance. Theme park admission and a Magic Kingdom park reservation are required for this tour.
A cast member will guide guests through a five-hour walking tour of the Magic Kingdom. They will go through the “secret” tunnels beneath the park, learn fun facts about Walt, and find Hidden Mickeys. Lunch and a memorable keepsake are included in the tour price. Disney adults will love this tour, as they’ll get to see backstage areas unavailable to the public; it is a real VIP experience.
Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park, guests can take the Wild Africa Trek. The Wild Africa Trek is a private three-hour tour that takes guests through grasslands, over a rope bridge, and on a bumpy safari ride. The cost is $200. This is so much more than just a tour about animals, though. Throughout the expedition, a photographer will capture moments that can be downloaded after.
African-style snacks are also included in the tour. Chicken curry salad, marinated tandoori shrimp, and fruit marinated in mint and ginger are some snacks offered during the Wild Africa Trek. Park admission and a park reservation are needed for this experience. Before participating, guests should be free from health conditions, and expectant mothers should sit this trek out. The Wild Africa Trek occurs rain or shine, except for when there is lightning in the area or high winds.
Adults visiting Disney who want to make the most of their time and spend as little time as possible around fighting families should consider booking a Private VIP tour. This service ranges from $425 to $850 per hour, and the tour must be reserved for at least seven hours. Like the other tours mentioned, theme park admission, as well as a reservation for the park, are required.
Up to ten people can partake in this customizable VIP tour experience at Disney. Guests will be taken through backstage areas, to the front of the lines, and driven around in a company vehicle. Meals are not included in the cost of the tour. Although costly, this tour is worth it for adults wanting to maximize their time while avoiding the crowds of people.
EAT AND DRINK AROUND THE WORLD
Being an adult at Disney means partaking in the tradition of eating and drinking around the World Showcase in EPCOT. Where else in the world could someone get ten drinks in ten different countries in one day? Most people will start in Mexico and continue clockwise around the showcase until they are back in Mexico again.
Each country has a variety of food and drinks to sample. Inside the Mexican pavilion is a tequila bar, La Cava del Tequila. Here guests can order tequila flights or the avocado margarita. After ordering from La Vaca del Tequila, head outside to La Cantina de San Angel and order their massive plate of nachos. Smothered in queso and topped with jalapenos, this is definitely one of the bigger snacks in Epcot; it’s practically a meal.
Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe is the bakery in Norway in Epcot. A very popular sweet treat found here is the school bread. The school bread is a sweet roll stuffed with custard and covered in coconut. To wash it down, consider ordering a Viking Coffee made with Bailey’s Irish Cream Liqueur and Kamora Coffee Liqueur.
The following country in the World Showcase is China. Joy of Tea, a small pavilion stand, sells delicious pork egg rolls. In addition to the pork egg rolls, Joy of Tea offers a refreshing cocktail, Canto Loopy, vodka, and cantaloupe juice.
Germany has several popular snacks, but the most popular is probably anything from Karamell-Küche. While walking past the shop, there is no way to avoid the sweet smell of caramel as it fills your nose. Here, guests can watch the caramel cooking in the kitchen while deciding what tasty snack to eat. Offerings like caramel popcorn, apples, pretzels, brownies, and cookies are available.
The most popular adult beverage in Germany is the Schofferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen. This sweet, smooth drink is made by mixing grapefruit juice with beer. Even non-beer drinkers love this drink, and its line is known to get quite long.
Italy is famous for many things, but it is most well known for its pizza! Via Napoli Ristorante is the resident pizza place in Walt Disney World. At this restaurant, guests can order individual, large, or mezzo metro (very large) pizzas. Their best pie? Prosciutto e Melone Signature Pie. Yes. Melon on a pizza. The cantaloupe with two kinds of cheese and salty prosciutto work well together.
Florida is hot for the majority of the year and the perfect drink to quench your thirst is the Italian Margarita. The Italian Margarita is a frozen, tangy drink made with tequila and limoncello. This is the ideal beverage to beat the heat on a hot Florida afternoon.
The world-famous Disney turkey leg can be found at the Fife and Drum Tavern in America. These large, juicy turkey legs are a Walt Disney World vacation staple. One cannot take a trip to Disney World without trying one. Try a beer from Block and Hans Fine American Ale to get something to rinse down the turkey leg. This establishment serves a unique collection of assorted craft beers and serves typical American fare like burgers and fries.
Sushi is highly popular amongst adults, and if a craving hits while in Disney, the Japan pavilion will be able to assist. The Kabuki Cafe sells shaved ice and sushi. California, nigiri combo, and spicy rolls are sold. This stand also sells frozen draft beer, perfect for a sunny, hot day spent in Epcot.
Morocco comes after Japan while traveling around the World Showcase, and Oasis Sips and Sweets is the perfect place to satisfy that sweet tooth. The bakery sells various cookies such as an almond crescent cookie, baklava, and sesame koulourakia, a butter cookie coated in sesame seeds. The frozen mint tea in the shop is a refreshing cocktail made with Bombay Sapphire Gin that will give a burst of energy. The great thing is this tea is available with and without alcohol.
La Creperie de Paris is a new crepe restaurant that opened in the French pavilion. This cafe sells both sweet and savory crepes. For adults, there is an option to add a shot of liquor to any of the sweet crepes. Imagine how delicious a banana and caramel crepe taste with a shot of rum layered on top. The best drinks in France are the Gran Marnier, and Greygoose slushies served in this pavilion. Disney adults have been loving this drink for years.
The Rose and Crown Pub is a British-style pub that serves food and drinks. Here, guests can order a wide array of British beer cocktails like cider and black, the snakebite and black and tan. Nextdoor to the pub is the Yorkshire County Fish Shop. Crispy beer, battered fried fish, and draft beer is served at this British stand.
For popcorn fanatics, Canada sells maple-flavored popcorn. The maple popcorn is sold in a souvenir popcorn bucket good for the length of stay for an extra cost. Canada offers a few unique beers, but the best is La Fin du Monde or The end of the world in English. This french beer is a homage to Quebec and has an alcohol volume of 9%!
TEE-UP ON A DISNEY GOLF COURSE
Walt Disney World is home to four golf courses and two mini golf courses. Disney’s Palm Golf Course has nine holes and offers a hard enough challenge for professionals and amateurs. Currently, Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course is closed due to refurbishment.
Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course has 18 holes. This vast course has hosted PGA tours and other golf events. A great benefit of golfing at the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is when hunger strikes, there is a complimentary ferry that will shuttle guests to Disney Springs.
Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course is a nine-hole walking-only course. Adults visiting Walt Disney World looking for a quiet, kid-free vacation may want to avoid the Oak Trail Golf Course. A junior tee area makes this golf course attract families with children, which could put a damper on your peaceful, restful day on the green.
Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf and Winter Summerland Miniature Golf are Disney’s two mini golf courses. Both are open from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM. Fantasia Gardens is the more challenging of the two courses, but Winter Summerland has many fun photo opportunities.

DINE LIKE A QUEEN OR KING
Walt Disney World is home to several fine dining restaurants. Some of these restaurants, like The Hollywood Brown Derby, are inside the theme parks and require a parking ticket and a park reservation, so be mindful when making reservations. Fine dining restaurants at Disney do require a dress code. Men may wear slacks, a button-down or suit, and women may wear a cocktail dress, slacks, blouse, or dress skirt.
Victoria and Albert’s is the creme ala creme for fine dining in Disney World. Located at The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, no theme park admission is required for this dining experience. The restaurant has received the AAA five diamond award every year since 2000. It is even in the Florida Trend Golden Spoon Hall of Fame!
The wine list features over 500 wines from 35 different regions worldwide. There are three different dining options Victoria and Albert’s. The first is in the classic dining room, and the second is Queen Victoria’s Room. Finally, the most exclusive dining experience at all of Walt Disney World is The Chef’s Table. This is a three-hour experience where the chef will serve samples that fit your party’s dietary preferences.
Another Disney fine dining restaurant where you can eat like royalty is The California Grill. The California Grill is located on the top floor at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and offers vast sweeping views of the Magic Kingdom theme park and Seven Sea lagoon. If guests time their reservations just right, they’ll be treated to the nightly firework show right from their seats, with dimmed lights and music pumped through the speakers. The menu features specialties and wine from the Golden State.
GRAB A NIGHTCAP
As an adult at Disney, guests can try beverages from the many bars on Disney property. Bars can be found all over the property; they are located at the theme parks, Disney Springs, and the resorts. One of the most popular bars right now in Disney World is Oga’s Cantina at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Oga’s Cantina is the same bar Han and crew visit in Star Wars: A New Hope. Guests can order the infamous blue milk, with or without alcohol. Since Oga’s is part of the brand new Galaxy’s Edge section of Hollywood Studios, reservations are currently required to grab a beverage here. For Star Wars fans, this is a must-see! The lighting level in the bar is low, and the noise level can get loud. The bar also has limited seating and is mostly standing room only.
The bars at Disney do not lack theme, and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Tiki Bar is another excellent themed bar. Trader Sam’s is located at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Reservations are not accepted, but it is popular. Arrive early as guests usually have to wait before getting in, but be prepared for a night full of surprises when you are seated. Guests have to be 21 years of age or older to enter.
Appetizers are available from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM every day! Some delectable apps are island cuisines like pan-fried dumplings and kalua pork tacos. In addition to an extensive beer and wine list, specialty cocktails are available, and most come in cool souvenir glasses. The Polynesian Pearl is served in a drinkable pearl that guests can take home as a souvenir.
At Animal Kingdom Park, make plans to grab a drink at Nomad Lounge. Located next to Tiffin’s Restaurant, Nomad Lounge offers beer, wine, mixed drinks, and small plates. Non-alcoholic drinks, coffee, and tea are also offered here.
Try the Night Monkey, Tempting Tigress, or grab a Mustang Coffee.
EXPLORE DISNEY’S BOARDWALK
Explore Disney’s BoardWalk, located near EPCOT, for great dining, attractions and nightlife.
Walking along the water here will feel like you’ve stepped foot on Coney Island. Grab a drink at AbracadaBar before getting dinner at Trattoria al Forno or Flying Fish. Cruise down the boardwalk on a Surrey bike, before heading to Jellyrolls to catch the dueling pianos, or dance the night away at the Atlantic Dance Hall.
Make sure to grab an ice cream before heading back to your resort. An evening spent along Disney’s BoardWalk is a night well spent!
RELAX AT A DISNEY SPA
There are five world-class spas located at Walt Disney World. One of these spas is The Grand Floridian Spa, located at The Grand Floridian. The Spa at the Grand Floridian is located in a smaller building outside the main lobby and across from the Disney Vacation Club Villas. Massage treatments are available, including an Expectant Mother’s Massage explicitly designed for the comfort and safety of mother and baby.
The spa can also assist those looking for a quick mani and pedi while on vacation. Express manicure and pedicure treatments are available for anyone looking for a quick refresher before dining at Victoria and Albert’s that evening. A 25-minute manicure or pedicure is $50.
Health and Fitness at Coronado Springs is the only spa at a moderate-level resort. Massages and facials are available, as well as a hair salon. Haircuts, blow drys, and even simple braiding are available at the La Vida Health Club in the resort. A new state-of-the-art fitness center is located in the Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs.
SPLURGE ON A CHARTED FIREWORKS CRUISE
Firework cruises are available for either EPCOT or Magic Kingdom. Audio is synced to the boat so guests will feel like they are on Main Street USA or standing around the World Showcase. The firework cruise is captained by a trained cast member and includes soft drinks and snacks. Balloons and decor are an additional cost if celebrating a special event.
The cost of a chartered fireworks cruise begins at $399. This price is for a 25-foot boat that can fit up to ten guests. Pricing changes according to the time of year.
To see Harmonious, the EPCOT firework show, cruises leave from the Yacht and Beach Club boat dock. Disney’s Enchantment at Magic Kingdom cruises depart from various resorts around the Magic Kingdom park.
MEMORIALIZE YOUR STAY WITH A PRIVATE PHOTO SESSION
Capture Your Moment is a service Disney offers to its guests. This service provides the guest with a private photo pass photographer who will take them through any of the four theme parks to perfect picture spots.
The session lasts for 20 minutes and costs $79. For the price, eight people can be included in the session. This is an excellent service for gender reveals, proposals, or family reunions.
GO ALL OUT AT ONE OF THEIR HOLIDAY EVENTS
Magic Kingdom offers two different holiday parties, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. These two events require a separate theme park ticket, which is an additional cost to a regular ticket. The theme park will close its gates early on the day of these events and will only allow those with access to the event. Be aware when visiting Magic Kingdom during these events, because guests will have to leave if they do not have a ticket for the special occasion.
Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party runs on select nights from mid-August through Halloween night. Ticket prices fluctuate depending on the day of the week and discounts, but usually range from $99 to $129. This price includes a special firework show, a stage show featuring everyone’s favorite witches from Hocus Pocus, and the Boo To You Halloween Parade. Specialty snacks and treats are served throughout the night, and rare characters are out and about for pictures. Most attractions are also open.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party runs from November through December. Tickets are about the same price as those for the Halloween event. The ticket cost changes depending on the date and discounts like annual passes or Disney Vacation Club.
Minnie hosts a special holiday firework show as snow falls on Main Street USA. Cookies and hot chocolate are complementary and available at select stations throughout the park. Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe turns into Club Tinsel, where classic and rare Disney characters can be found.
OR AN AMAZING FESTIVAL
Epcot hosts a variety of fun special events throughout the year. The Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT started as an event to bring guests to Disney during the slow period; now, it is one of the park’s main draws. In addition to the pavilions around the World Showcase, smaller stands offering sample dishes and drinks are available. Countries not featured around the showcase like India, South Korea, and Australia, are some of the booths featured. Concerts are held every weekend by famous artists like Smash Mouth, Plain White Tees, and Tiffany.
Another festival at EPCOT is the International Festival of the Arts. The booths at this festival feature culinary masterpieces and fun artwork. This festival is usually held between January and February.
Concerts are held during this event, but these concerts honor Disney on Broadway. Broadway stars perform songs from Disney Broadway hits like Frozen, The Lion King, and Newsies.
RUN LIKE THE WIND
Whether one can run like the wind like Bullseye, or like to take it slow and steady like Mr. Sloth, runDisney has something for everyone. Every mile is magical with a runDisney race. Runners are taken through the Disney theme parks, where there are character sightings, music, and entertainment.
There are many runDisney events such as the Expedition Everest 5K, The Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon, and the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Various races are available during these events, like kids races, 5K, and even unique challenges with runners completing every single race offered that weekend. That challenge is befittingly called, The Dopey Challenge.
runDisney events can be costly, with The Dopey Challenge costing $660. Included in the price is a commemorative medal designed for the theme of the race weekend. When races are announced, they sell out fast, so it is best to set an alert for when sign-ups become available if looking to compete in a runDisney race.
DON’T MISS YOUR FAVORITE RIDES AND ATTRACTIONS
Of course, Disney World is most famous for its rides, attractions, and shows. No matter the age or even if someone is a Disney fan, each Disney theme park has something unique to offer its guests. Whether it’s a water ride, a thrill ride, or a Broadway-style show, one of the four Disney theme parks has it.
One of the most popular attractions at Magic Kingdom isn’t a thrill ride, but an opening day classic — Pirates of the Caribbean. Pirates of the Caribbean is a slow-moving boat ride through the days when pirates ruled the seas. The barge guests board sails through cannon fire, a Caribbean Fort, and may even spot a familiar face peeking out from behind a barrel. Waits for this ride can get as high as one hour, but it does offer a lightning lane for an extra cost.
TRON Lightcycle / Run, scheduled to open at Magic Kingdom Park in spring 2023, will be one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world — perfect for an adult trip!
Soarin’ at EPCOT is considered a thrill ride, but it is more exhilarating than anything. Initially flying solely over California, Soarin’ flight 5505 now takes off and flies worldwide. Guests are lifted up slowly in the air in front of a gigantic screen, giving them the feeling of hang gliding over world-famous icons and monuments. Glide over the savannas of Africa, the great wall of China, and the Taj Mahal. The hang gliding adventure ends with a fireworks show over Spaceship Earth at EPCOT.
Journey of Water, inspired by Moana, opens in late-2023 within World Nature in Epcot! Be one of the first to check out this new ride.
Kilimanjaro Safari is the flagship attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Every time a guest rides, this attraction is a different experience because all animals are life! A cast member will guide you through this tour on the African savannah, where anything can happen. Sometimes a rhino will park itself right in front of a jeep, or a giraffe will be taking a chunk out of a leafy green tree. No ride is ever the same so expect the unexpected.
The newest ride at Hollywood Studios is Rise of the Resistance. This state-of-the-art attraction is an immersive experience that even someone who doesn’t like Star Wars is bound to enjoy. Guests join the resistance to fight Kylo Ren but no worries because the light side is sure to win with heroes like Rey and BB-8 on their side. Expect thrills on this ride as it is unlike anything anyone has seen.
BEST FOR ADULTS AT DISNEY SPRINGS
Disney Springs, formally Downtown Disney, is a shopping, dining, and entertainment district located on Disney property. With over 100 places to shop, 60 places to eat, and so much to see, boredom is not an option. The best part? Admission to Disney Springs is complimentary!
Splitsville Luxury Lanes is the perfect choice for date night. Order pizza or sushi and delicious frozen drinks while bowling down memory lane. The new M&M Store is the ideal stop for anyone with a sweet tooth, and Goofy’s Candy Shop offers chewy and gooey rice Krispie treats.
There are so many places to eat at Disney Springs. Some of the more popular eateries are Morimoto Asia, owned by Iron Chef Morimoto, and The Boathouse, which offers outside dining on The Sassagoula River. The Boathouse also offers boat rides in the style of classic cars, which is the perfect way to end any date night.
The Edison is another specialty restaurant at Disney Springs which is steampunk themed. The interior has seven different bar and dining areas to see. A must-try and highly recommended dish at The Edison is their hand-cut french fries served with a side of spicy homemade ketchup.
STK Orlando is a fine dining steakhouse located at Disney Springs. This restaurant can be expensive, so it may be best to go there for their Late Night Eats menu. From 10:00 PM until close, the lounge offers appetizers and drinks for $8 and under, Thursday through Saturday. Guests can sample the tasty food STK Orlando offers without breaking the bank.
