3 Atlanta Hotels Win Coveted Michelin Recognition

You’ve heard of Michelin stars. A sought-after ranking given out to the world’s top restaurants by the French-owned Michelin Group. The Michelin Guide is still created annually by the legendary tire company that’s been around just about as long as cars. It’s a weird relationship, unless you stop to think about it.

Michelin created it’s famous guide in 1900 when there were less than 3,000 cars on the road in France. Foreseeing the automobile as the future of transportation, they wanted to make drivers aware of the best places to eat on the road.

But did you know that Michelin also rates hotels? They don’t use stars for this rating but rather give out what they call “recognitions”. Not one, but three Atlanta hotels received one Michelin recognition this year. Here’s who they are.

Michelin stars and recognitions are given out by geographical area – and they only give a handful to each territory. This is part of what makes them so special. You’re going to the best of the best.

Stonehurst Place

This is not your typical hotel experience. In fact it’s actually a Bed & Breakfast. We’ve stayed several times and it is the bomb. It’s great if you’re looking to do date night in Midtown. We opted for The Laughing Skull Lounge which is within walking distance. And the gourmet breakfast we received the next morning was top-notch.

The Candler Hotel

This is our pick for Historic Boutique Hotel. Built in 1906, The Candler was recently and expertly restored to its original elegance. The hotel features a grand lobby with marble floors, art deco details, and a beautiful on-site restaurant. This one-of-a-kind hotel experience is perfect for travelers who appreciate history and luxury.

The Hotel Clermont

Saved the best for last! We named the Clermont, home to the famous dive strip bar the Clermont Lounge, the Coolest Hotel for Couples in Atlanta. We, personally, are huge fans of the hotel AND the Clermont Lounge…but if this historical strip club makes you a little nervous you should know it’s around back with a separate entrance. Unless you seek it out, you won’t even know it’s there. Be sure to visit the Gypsy Room cocktail bar as well.
