Tellus Museum in Cartersville is sometimes affectionately called “Georgia’s Space Museum.” It’s been almost 15 years since it opened, and it’s time for an expansion!
“We’ve been talking for years about the need to have these important spaces at Tellus,” said Executive Director Emeritus, Jose Santamaria. “It is exciting that they will soon become a reality.”
Tellus announced a 20,000 sq ft building at the front of the museum. It will be home to a new permanent exhibit space that will give guests the chance to explore the evolution of technology. You know… things now considered “antiquated” because of the development of smartphones.
Artifacts like calculators, cameras, record players, and more will be displayed as part of the exhibit.
Good grief that makes me feel old!
The secondary space of around 7,500 square feet will be used for larger, more dynamic temporary exhibit experiences. It’s likely to see two or three different exhibits per year and include many interactive aspects.
Site preparation and construction has already begun. This new expansion is expected to open sometime between late 2025 and early 2026.
Don’t wait to visit until then, though…there will be no interruption in current museum operations.
