Georgia has been showing their cleavage to the film industry ever since Governor Sonny Perdue signed into law generous tax incentives in 2008.
Since then the majority of productions and film studios have made their home in or near Atlanta Metro, the largest being Trilith Studios in Fayetteville with it’s 700-acre site, 400-acre backlot and 32 soundstages. And there are many, many more.
There’s a new player in the Georgia filming game, and it’s nowhere near Atlanta.

Pigmental Studios, known for their animation work, is opening up a major studio location in St. Mary’s, Georgia, near Cumberland Island. St. Mary’s is almost 350 miles from Atlanta!
The new facility design is purported to cover 117 acres, and include temporary housing, food halls, and a mixed use project with hotel according to The Atlanta Business Chronicle.
“Pigmental Studios has, over the last few years, established itself as a known and formidable animation studio focused on the extensive and meticulous development of high value, internally owned IP in feature films, TV series, Gaming and L&M allowing the use of the characters and story in multiple platforms and sequels, derivatives and other exploitation avenues.”
If you’re curious as to why Pigmental would create the studio so far from Atlanta and Hartsfield, St. Mary’s is only about 30 minutes from the Jacksonville International Airport. Ahhhhhh! Interesting move.
