NYC’s Cult-Favorite Ice Cream Is Now at Ponce—And Atlanta’s Already Obsessed

Even if you’re a “just every once in a while” ice cream eater (who hurt you?), you might want to make an exception for this: Van Leeuwen, the NYC scoop shop that made headlines with ice cream flavors like Kraft Mac & Cheese and Hidden Valley Ranch (yes, really), just opened its first Atlanta location at Ponce City Market—and they didn’t come quietly.

Since opening, it’s drawn a steady stream of sweet-toothed curiosity-seekers, including our own Sue, who will happily tell you that ice cream is her love language.

She tried the Honeycomb, a signature flavor that balances deep caramel notes with just enough crunch, and gave it a glowing review between bites. Pro tip: it pairs suspiciously well with a warm evening and zero responsibilities.

Also fun? Van Leeuwen is always scheming something new. Right now, it’s Guinness Extra Stout ice cream, because apparently dessert beer is a thing, and it actually works. Keep an eye on the seasonal board—this place does not phone it in.

Walking up, you’ll see that the vibe is classic Van Leeuwen: pastel walls, glass cases packed with scoops of Earl Grey Tea, Sicilian Pistachio (with actual Mount Etna pistachios), and the cult-favorite Marionberry Cheesecake. Vegan options are here too—and not just as an afterthought. This is where oat milk and cashew milk go to feel fancy.

They’re open late (10 p.m. on weekdays, 11 p.m. on weekends), which makes it a solid post-dinner stop—or, let’s be honest, a just-because-it’s-Tuesday kind of treat. You can grab a cone, a sundae, a root beer float, or one of their grocery-store pints if you’re into late-night freezer raids.

You’ll find them at 619 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, right on the ground floor of that new timber-framed building at the market. No need to overthink it—just show up, maybe bring a friend, and order whatever feels right in the moment.

(Though if you walk out without trying the honeycomb, Sue may give you the side eye.)
