There are so many train experiences to take advantage of in Georgia and all around the Southeast. You know the type – vintage trains chugging down long-deprecated sections of rail through scenic areas. They’re fun!
And you’re also probably aware of certain themed train rides – Christmastime and the Polar Express comes to mind.
One of our beloved, Georgia railroads has really upped the ante on train experiences, offering a wide selection of themes to choose from throughout the year. Just wait until you see what they have to offer – including a new Halloween-themed train for kids.

The Georgia Coastal Railway runs a route from Kingsland, Georgia to St. Mary’s, Georgia and back. You are welcome to just purchase a regular ticket to this hour+ long experience on any given Saturday. You can even get special tickets to ride up with the engineer, or rent out the entire caboose.
But they also offer these unique, themed, train experiences, and they’re not just for kids. In fact, some are not for kids at all. You see, Kingsland Station is also home to a theater and the Kingsland Station Players. We’re guessing this has more than just something to do with the variety, and they put on some pretty great shows in the station.
Here’s a list of just some of the themed train rides the Georgia Coastal Railway has to offer. They just added one for Halloween for the kiddos!
- Meet the Monsters – A brand new halloween-themed excursion for kids.
- Shipwrecker’s Pirate Train – Come join the “Shipwreckers” crew for a fun-filled afternoon of family adventure on the high rails with special guest, Captain Jack!
- Murder Mystery Express – Watch and listen as suspects and detectives come to life to tell their stories, uncover clues and ask you to help solve a murder mystery on the train.
- Wine Tasting Train – Ride the rails on one of our wine tasting events featuring a variety of wines from every region in the world.
- Pizza Express – Ride the Pizza Express and get your choice of a 16″ Cheese Pizza or a 16″ Pepperoni Pizza for the table.
- Superhero Express – Put on your favorite cape and mask and join some of your favorite super heroes on this 1-1/2 hour family-friendly adventure aboard the Superhero Express. Best dressed superheroes win prizes.
- Comedy Train – Sit back and listen to both seasoned as well as up-and-coming stars in the world of comedy. The bar will be open serving some of your favorite adult libations.
Here’s more detail on Meet the Monsters from the railroad, “Gather the kids and celebrate fall with “Meet the Monsters’” a family friendly Halloween themed ride. This 70-minute interactive train ride on open air cars features friendly monsters that will have everyone doing the Monster Mash, singing and sharing candy. Be sure to don your favorite costume. Looking for a spookier option? Check out the Survivor Train, a thrilling 75-minute adventure featuring live action audience participation. This zombie themed ride will have passengers on the edge of their seat and is not recommended for children—or anyone faint of heart.”
Kingsland/St. Mary’s can be a bit of a drive. Make it a weekend trip to Cumberland Island.
