These Georgia State Parks may be lesser-known, but they are really, really amazing and are worth a visit. If you can’t make it to a National Park this year, one of these budget-friendly spots may just fit the bill.

Here is our list of Georgia State Parks that can be used as “destination dupes” for some of America’s National Parks…

The beautiful 729-foot waterfall at Amicalola Falls State Park is located in Dawsonville, GA, and is surrounded by breathtaking views. It is the third-highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River.

These picturesque falls rival Cuyahoga Valley’s famous Brandywine Falls in Ohio. Ready to get out there? We’ve got Everything You Need To Know About Hiking the Amicalola Falls.

Great Falls National Park vs. High Falls State Park

High Falls State Park

Named for the cascading falls of Towaliga River over remains of a hydroelectric power plant foundation, High Falls State Park has boat rentals, ramps and fishing docks at the lake in the park. Guests can even stay in lakeside yurts at this beautiful destination located between Atlanta and Macon, GA. These views and activities are a great dupe for Great Falls National Park in Virginia.

We love High Falls, and wrote all about it here: High Falls State Park: What’s Not To Love About Yurts and Waterfalls?

Grand Canyon National Park vs. Providence Canyon State Park

You knew this one would be on the list!

Enjoy Georgia’s own mini–Grand Canyon at Providence Canyon, located in Lumpkin, GA. With gullies as deep as 150 feet, guests can enjoy hiking while enjoying the magnificent views.

The canyons here make for a much more convenient dupe to Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park.

We love to take our kids to Providence, and wrote about it here: The Secrets of Providence Canyon Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon. If you want to camp nearby, try Florence Marina State Park.

Congaree National Park vs. Stephen C. Foster State Park

Located in Charlton County, Stephen C. Foster State Park is a primary entrance to Okefenokee Swamp, the largest blackwater wetland in the South. The breathtaking views of this park are defined by Spanish moss, cypress knees and vibrant wildlife.

Stephen C. Foster’s swampy environment rivals South Carolina’s Congaree National Park’s waters.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park vs. Black Rock Mountain State Park

The best views of Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains are in Black Rock Mountain State Park. The park is similar to the Smoky Mountain views you can find at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with hiking trails and even a small lake. Visitors often see black bears at the highest altitude Georgia State Park.

If you’re traveling to the Oconaluftee entrance of GSMNP in Cherokee, NC, chances are high that you’ll pass right by Black Rock Mountain State Park on the way…so maybe see both?

For history buffs who do not want to travel far, Pickett’s Mill Battlefield is full of rich history rivaling Gettysburg. One of the best-preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation, guests can get the full experience by immersing themselves in the exact setting of the soldiers. To learn further, there is even an authentic 1800s cabin open for tours and an on-site museum at their location in Dallas, GA.

This is a great alternative to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
