You may not believe it, but it’s already time to start thinking about summer camps!

Summer Camp Registration Begins at Fernbank Museum

SUMMER CAMP AT FERNBANK

Fernbank Museum of Natural History will offer summer camps this summer for kids ages 5 to 10 years old. Running between June 3 and July 26, 2024, you can pick the week and themes that work best for your camper.

Additionally, kids between 10-12 years old can participate in Fernbank’s Ranger Camp! We’ve got more info on the camp options below.

What you need to know now is that Summer Camp Registration begins for Museum Members on Monday, January 15 at Noon. Registration for non-members will begin Monday, January 22 at Noon.

Camps at Fernbank run from 9am to 4pm, with morning care and after care available for an extra cost. Kids must be at least 5 years old to participate in summer camp. Camp includes games, activities and crafts that are centered around the theme of each day.

CAMP OPTIONS AT FERNBANK MUSEUM

Okay, lets talk about camp options.

Themes repeat weekly between June 3 and July 26, so you’ll want to select the week that best meets your summer needs. Camps include games, activities and crafts centered around the theme of each day.

Summer 2024 Day Camp themes for ages 5-10 may include things like Ecology Day, Mirror Maze, Geography, Oceans, and Paleontology Day. You’ll find all sorts of fun activity possibilities each day — everything from museum-wide scavenger hunts to digging for fossils.

Here’s a breakdown of the activities you could expect for each themed day.

  • Ecology Day activities may include walking through Fernbank Forest and soil sampling.
  • Mirror Maze may include activities like pattern stamp making, optical illusion crafts, and exploring Fernbank Forest for mathematical patterns.
  • Designing your own island and a museum-wide scavenger hunt may be on the agenda for Geography day.
  • With Oceans, campers may craft creatures of the deep, engineer creative ocean cleanup solutions, or journey through the water cycle.
  • Activities on Paleontology Day may include digging for fossils and exploring the Giants of the Mesozoic exhibit.

In addition to day camp, Fernbank is offering a Ranger Camp the week of June 24-28 for kids between 10 and 12 years old. Taking place mostly in Fernbank’s outdoor areas, Ranger Camp will focus on Fernbank Forest and understanding the geology, biodiversity and ecology of the 65-acre old-growth forest.
