Spring is here, and with it comes the delightful return of Suwanee’s Art on a Limb. If you’re like me, the idea of stumbling upon a hidden piece of art while taking a leisurely stroll sounds like a dream. Well, dream no more! This May, Suwanee’s parks and trails are turning into a treasure hunt for art lovers and casual walkers alike.

Imagine this: You’re out for a morning walk on the Suwanee Creek Greenway, the sun is peeking through the trees, and the air is crisp with the scent of blooming flowers. Suddenly, you spot something glinting in the grass. You bend down, and there it is—a unique piece of art, just waiting for you to find it. And the best part? It’s yours to keep. No strings attached, just a little piece of joy to brighten your day.
This year, the art comes with a twist. Ryan McDuffie, a talented welder with a knack for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary, is the featured artist. Ryan’s creations are not your typical art pieces. He takes everyday items like silverware and household scrap and transforms them into stunning metal floral sculptures. Each piece is a testament to creativity and craftsmanship, offering a one-of-a-kind treasure for those lucky enough to find them.
Since 2005, Art on a Limb has been a beloved tradition in Suwanee, celebrating the city’s vibrant arts community and its beautiful outdoor spaces. Over the years, the program has featured everything from fairy doors and colorful clay birds to mini paintings, gnomes, and pottery. It’s a celebration of creativity and community, and this year, Ryan’s imaginative metal sculptures add a new layer of excitement.

Now, if you’re thinking, “I’m not much of an art person,” let me stop you right there. This isn’t about being an art connoisseur. It’s about the thrill of discovery, the joy of finding something unexpected, and the simple pleasure of being outdoors. Whether you’re a seasoned art lover or someone who just enjoys a good walk, there’s something magical about finding a hidden masterpiece in the wild.
And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good treasure hunt? It’s like being a kid again, searching for hidden Easter eggs or buried pirate treasure. Only this time, the treasure is a beautiful piece of art that you can take home and proudly display.
So, how does it work? Each day in May, two pieces of original artwork will be hidden along the Suwanee Creek Greenway, Brushy Creek Trail, Suwanee Creek Park, White Street Park, or Sims Lake Park. If you find a piece, it’s yours to keep. All the organizers ask is that you share your discovery by sending a photo to adoherty@suwanee.com or tagging @cityofsuwanee on social media. It’s a fun way to connect with the community and share the joy of your find.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “What if I don’t find anything?” Well, that’s the beauty of it. Even if you don’t find a piece of art, you still get to enjoy a lovely day outside, exploring Suwanee’s beautiful parks and trails. And who knows? You might just stumble upon something else that catches your eye—a particularly beautiful flower, a friendly squirrel, or a stunning view that takes your breath away.
So, lace up your sneakers, grab a friend or two, and head out to Suwanee this May. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Art on a Limb is a delightful way to experience the city’s charm and creativity. And who knows? You might just come home with a little piece of Suwanee’s artistic spirit. Happy hunting!
