Cobb County is perfect for an Atlanta area staycation or affordable getaway. In this metro county, you’ll find a rich diversity and plenty of awesome things to do.
And we’re not just talking about visiting The Battery Atlanta or taking a bike ride on the Silver Comet Trail (although those things are amazing)! We’re talking about spending the day like a local would, and finding all the charming spots that make Cobb County great.
Ready to get started? Here’s a day trip itinerary for you and your crew that’s guaranteed to please.
- Start the day with caffeine and an interesting book at the Read Shop by the Merchant in Vinings. Coffee and books go hand-in-hand, and this unique bookstore is the perfect combination of the two. It has become a local favorite, known not only for its wide selection of books with everything from bestsellers to cookbooks, but also its excellent coffee, delicious pastries and a relaxing ambiance to start your day.
- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and locals love Basecamp at Kennesaw Mountain for Southern-style food, including fluffy pancakes, filling breakfast biscuits and savory fried chicken. This homestyle eatery has been winning over foodies with decadent breakfast, brunch, and lunch items for more than five years.
- Explore Smith Gilbert Gardens, Kennesaw’s botanical garden, that sits on a 16-acre garden setting surrounding the historic Hiram Butler House. Home to the only public Bonsai exhibit in Georgia, the Smith Gilbert Gardens is a special spot.
- See a movie at the Strand Theatre, a noted landmark on the historic Marietta Square. It got its start as a major motion picture house in 1935, providing entertainment to thousands of people until it closed in 1976. After reopening in 2009, the Strand Theatre lights up the square with live theatre, films, concerts comedy and more. Here’s a look at some of the movies being shown here this month.
- Experience authentic Hispanic food at Tacos Del Chavo, a hole-in-the-wall joint in Kennesaw known for their outstanding tacos. They don’t take cards, so make sure to bring cash for this local spot!
- Go off the beaten path to the newly opened Frog Rock Brewing Company, and enjoy local brew with live music in their quarter-acre beer garden. Using local Lithia Spring Mineral Water to brew fresh, crisp, craft beer, this brewery is worth the visit for the unique atmosphere and range of beers on tap.
- End the night at Marietta Proper, a new “Art Deco chic” wine bar & café, where the glamour and wealth of the Great Gatsby era meets the allure of the prohibition era. Guests are invited to immerse themselves in a unique experience and to treat themselves to globally inspired small plates, expertly paired with their selection of rare and distinctive wines.
