For Atlanta resident Robert McMillan, camping isn’t just an occasional weekend getaway—it’s a family tradition. Growing up, camping was always a part of his life. One of his most cherished memories involves a cross-country trip from Milledgeville to Seattle as one of four kids, soaking in all the beauty along the way.

Years later, when Robert wanted to take his own kiddo on a similar adventure—from Atlanta to Glacier National Park—he realized something was missing. Despite the evolution of travel apps, there wasn’t anything that felt like a seamless, private way to log and share the journey. The available tools were either clunky or too public, like Facebook. That’s when his IT background kicked in.
“I started thinking about building my own app back in 2012,” Robert explained. “But life got in the way, and I didn’t jump on it until a few years later.”
In 2015, Robert bought the domain camping.tools and began outlining his vision for a user-friendly platform. The idea was simple: an app that would allow campers to document and share their trips with loved ones—privately or publicly, depending on their preference. It would also serve as a marketplace for campers to buy and sell equipment, a place to offload extra gear or scout for new finds.
After years of fine-tuning, Camping.Tools made its official debut in 2020 at the Hershey RV Show, where it received an overwhelmingly positive response. From there, Robert kept iterating and making updates, gathering feedback from avid campers at different RV shows across the country.
The result? A platform that fits perfectly into any outdoor lover’s toolkit. Whether you’re sharing details of your fall camping trip with friends and family, looking to buy or sell gear, or just want to keep your adventures documented, Camping.Tools offers an affordable and easy-to-use solution. And if you’re simply following a loved one’s adventure, that’s free—always.
With the website free to sign up for and the mobile app available for a small fee, Camping.Tools is the go-to tool for campers who want to combine their love for the outdoors with easy documentation and sharing capabilities. Whether you’re planning your next adventure or just browsing for a new piece of gear, you can check it all out and download the app here.
If you’re ready to get outdoors this fall, Robert’s platform might be just what you need to make those camping trips even more memorable.
