Camping Changes Coming to Popular North Georgia Campground

A popular campground in North Georgia will be switching from first-come, first-serve camping to reservation-only starting in July.

The United States Forest Service (USFS) announced a change to the way campsites can be reserved at the Tallulah River Campground.

Beginning July 15, 2024, all campsites at Tallulah River Campground will be reservation-only. This is a change from the first-come, first-serve campsites here visitors enjoyed in the past. Reservations can be made here.

Located on the banks of the Tallulah River, the aptly-named Tallulah River Campground is located in Clayton, GA, near great trails and state parks. The river itself is routinely stocked with rainbow trout.

The campground here offers 17 campsites that come with picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts at each site. You’ll also find a vault toilet on site, as well as areas to collect drinking water while camping.

Tallulah River Campground is open year-round, with a camp host onsite from mid-April through mid-October.

When announcing the change to the Tallulah River Campground reservation system, the USFS also announced that starting January 1st, 2025, all campgrounds in the Chattooga River Ranger District will be by Reservation Only. Some of these campgrounds already are reservation-only, but the announcement mean changes for others.
