Most have participated in some kind of hotel rewards programs. It’s a mistake not to, even if you’re an infrequent traveler, but doubly important if you tend to rack up nights. There’s all sorts of perks involved, including first and foremost the occasional free night or upgrade.
But not all rewards programs are created equal, and if you spread your stays out amongst several major brands you run the risk of diluting your points and winding up with nada. Which is exactly the incentive hotel chains are looking for to keep you loyal to their brand.
WalletHub just released a ranking of the best hotel rewards programs, and they’ve included a ton of analysis to help you pick the best program for your traveling needs.
WalletHub’s Best Hotel Rewards Programs is out, and it’s pretty nifty.
From WalletHub, “To help travelers of all types save time and money, WalletHub compared the 9 most popular hotel rewards programs using 21 key metrics, ranging from point values to blackout dates for booking free nights.”
Here’s their top five rankings.
- World of Hyatt
- Wyndham Rewards
- Sonesta Travel Pass
- Marriott Bonvoy
- Hilton Honors
Criteria included Geographic Coverage, Rewards Value, Earning Policies, Redemption Options, Status Levels, and Other Features.
According to WalletHub, purchasing hotel rewards points is a rip-off with some programs, while others make it a good value. I tend to agree.
Hyatt rewards ranked the best due to the following reasons:
- Very valuable points when used to book free nights
- International members receive bonus points on bookings
- No blackout dates on standard rooms
- Many rewards redemption options
There’s a ton of other cool tidbits in their findings. For instance, did you know that Best Western is the only major hotel chain whose rewards points do not expire due to account inactivity?
But the very best thing about the WalletHub article is their calculator. Just answer a few questions about your lifestyle and travel tendencies and WalletHub will produce a list of recommendations tailored to fit your needs.
