Study: Georgia City #3 Best in U.S. for Celebrating St. Pat’s

Different cities around the United States have their own St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and traditions…but not every city is ideal for the holiday.

Personal-finance website WalletHub compared 200 of the largest U.S. cities across 15 key metrics to determine the best places to wear green — and a Georgia city comes in at #3 on the list!

WalletHub released their 2024 list of the Best Places to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the U.S. Their data set ranges from Irish pubs and restaurants per capita, to the lowest price for a three-star hotel on St. Patrick’s Day. They even took weather into account!

So which cities ended up on top? Here are the Top 20 Best Cities for St. Patrick’s Day!

  3. Savannah, GA
  4. Reno, NV
  5. Pittsburgh, PA
  6. New York, NY
  7. Worcester, MA
  8. Buffalo, NY
  9. Tampa, FL
  10. Santa Rosa, CA
  11. Naperville, IL
  12. Philadelphia, PA
  13. Knoxville, TN
  14. Columbia, SC
  15. Fort Lauderdale, FL
  16. Henderson, NV
  17. Syracuse, NY
  18. Las Vegas, NV
  19. New Orleans, LA
  20. Madison, WI

No surprise that Georgia’s own Savannah ranked so highly on the list! Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the best in the country and cannot be missed. Savannah rated highly in all metrics, but especially in the safety and weather categories.

Atlanta ranked at a very respectable #50, thanks to lots of St. Patrick’s themed activities, restaurants, and bars, and good weather.

Other Georgia cities that joined the rankings were Columbus, GA (#97) and Augusta, GA (#106).

Do you want to know which cities are considered some of the worst? Pomona, CA, came in at #196, followed by Grand Prairie, TX (#197), Arlington, TX (#198), Paterson, NJ (#199), and Bellevue, WA (#200).

Other fun facts released by WalletHub’s list include…

  • Naperville, Illinois, has the highest share of Irish population, which is 73 times greater than in Hialeah, Florida, the city with the lowest.
     
  • New York has the highest number of Irish pubs per capita, which is 29.3 times more than in Nashville, Tennessee, the city with the lowest.                    
     
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has the lowest average beer price, which is 1.5 times less expensive than in Anchorage, Alaska, the city with the highest.
     
  • Naperville, Illinois, has the lowest violent-crime rate, which is 46.6 times lower than in Memphis, Tennessee, the city with the highest.  
     
  • New York, has one of the lowest number of DUI-related fatalities per capita, which is 60.4 times less than in McAllen, Texas, the city with the highest.
