Do you know Cultured South? It’s Atlanta’s first kombucha taproom… but even before that Melanie Wade, founder & brewmaster, used her Grandma’s Golda tea recipe to make Golda Kombucha and sold it in Kroger and Whole Foods around the Southeast.
In 2016 she opened Cultured South Fermentation Company in the West End, expanding her kombucha skills and offerings. In 2022 she purchased Atlanta Utility Works in East Point to expand the business… making it the first brewery to open in the city.
But it’s more than a brewery. It’s a re-imagined 1900s factory serving as brewery, taproom, and events space, with the community top of mind.
The space has been used to film TV shows like Stranger Things and Ozark – in fact, you can take a Stranger Things tour here. Snap a family photo with Billy’s car in front of the factory before you go!
If you’re closer to East Point than West Midtown, head her for kombucha on tap, clever mocktails, or the new Grandmother Kombucha brand – Georgia’s first hard kombucha.
Beyond kombucha, though, AUW is building a diverse community with their amazing event space. Sure, you can have a family reunion or a wedding here (how gorgeous!) but it’s the community events that are amazing.
Sunday Fundays showcase local vendors with handmade goods, some outdoor yoga, live music, and drinks!
Warmer months bring events like karaoke, seasonal festivals, open mic nights and more. You’ll find concerts that include hip hop, metal, and everything in between… plus comedy shows, food pop ups…. the list is long!
Got an event that needs a rustic touch? This is your place. But also, come to taste the ‘booch and meet some new friends.
