It’s time for your Jeopardy question of the day. This Atlanta music venue was host to acts such as Nirvana, Radiohead and Soundgarden before these bands became musical icons. If you said, “What is The Masquerade, Alex?”, you are correct.
Of course, this is in the old days when the Masquerade was located in it’s original location on North Avenue. Since moving to Underground Atlanta in 2015, the Masquerade has not lost it’s charm, or it’s diverse room options based on capacity and vibe.
The Masquerade is known for intimate settings, offering diverse acts on various sized stages on soul-searching levels. Heaven, their largest room, tops out at a 1400 person standing-room capacity. After that you have Hell at 500 and Purgatory at 300. Can you imagine seeing Nirvana like that?
They’re opening a brand new room this year, The Altar, which is the most intimate and has the lowest overall capacity at 250 exited concert goers. The Altar is seen as an excellent opportunity to give space both to up and coming and smaller, established acts, with some stand-up comedy thrown in for good measure.
Not only that, but Altar is host to the venue’s newest offering.
“Altar will feature an expansive kitchen. A variety of simple, healthy, and tasty food offerings, including plant-based options, will be available from Altar’s kitchen before, during, and after shows. Concertgoers for shows at The Masquerade can place orders through a to-go window outside Altar, with dining at tables set up in Kenny’s Alley.”
What future music icon will you see at Alter in the Masquerade?
