The Wren’s Nest in Atlanta is the historic home of author and journalist Joel Chandler Harris. It’s also a cultural center, Atlanta’s oldest house museum, and National Historic Landmark in Atlanta’s West End neighborhood. There is no better place for young writers to find their voice.

The Scribes writing program at The Wren’s Nest will be offering a three-part series of spring workshops, as well as a weeklong summer camp for students in grades 5-8 this year. Established in 2010, the Scribes program works to elevate the voices of local young writers through their awesome creative writing programs.

Each program in the spring and summer will be led by a local author or teaching artist who specializes in their craft, which will allow students to explore writing and storytelling in different ways and through different genres. They can experience everything from writing and drawing comics to crafting poems and stories. Such a fun way for young writers to learn!

Admission to the in-person programs is open to Georgia students and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Here’s a look at what’s being offered in 2024, along with registration links…

You can find educational and cultural programming at The Wren’s Nest throughout the year, including house tours, live storytelling performances, free book programs, and special events.
