Tour Championship with Kids

Tips for Bringing Kids to The Tour Championship at East Lake

Kids Activities: See Georgia Aquarium animals up close and personal at the Georgia Aquarium Experience. Animals expected to make an appearance are the albino alligator, box turtles and more. At the Verizon Wireless Putting Challenge, kids and adults can test their skills on a custom, three-hole course with prizes and giveaways for low scorers.

Autographs: If your kids are like mine, they LOVE autographs. The best day for autographs is on Wednesday. It’s the final practice round and the golfers are more likely to pose for photos or give autographs. If you want autographs Thursday – Sunday, the best place to be is behind the 18th green by the Clubhouse as the players finish their round.

Photos: Another reason to go on Wednesday is it’s the only day cameras are allowed on the course. This year smart phones are allowed in designated areas, but you still can’t take photos or video during the tournament.

Food at the Southern Company SO Cool Zone: All the concessions are pretty family friendly, however, this interactive fan zone comes complete with a selection of local food and beverage options (including the always-popular Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q), shaded seating, big screen video boards and more.

Social Media: Follow PGA Tour on foursquare for tips and rewards, such as discounts at the concessions. You can also follow them on Twitter @playofffinale or Facebook/TheTOURChampionship

Parking: There is no public on-site parking at East Lake Golf Club. All public parking is free of charge at Turner Field. Fans are transported via climate controlled shuttles, compliments of Southern Company. The ride lasts about 15 – 20 minutes, so build that into your time so you aren’t late.

Military are Also Free at the PGA Tour Championship

In addition, all active duty, retired and reserve military personnel and their dependents are free with valid IDs. Tickets for active military MUST be reserved in advance and printed out. All military personnel MUST bring the printed ticket AND valid military ID to gain admission at the gate.

The East Lake Foundation and the PGA Tour Championship

Another reason to love the PGA Tour Championship at East Lake is proceeds from the event support the East Lake Foundation. I’ve done some PR work for the East Lake Foundation and they are a dedicated group, making a big difference in the community. Last year’s event raised $1.9 million to support the Foundation’s initiatives to end the cycle of poverty, including cradle-to-college education, mixed-income housing and community wellness programs. If you don’t know the story of East Lake, watch this CNBC video. You will be moved.
