The Togwotee Mountain Lodge, Wyoming is located about 45 minutes from Jenny Lake in Grand Tetons National Park. It is the perfect place to stay if you are looking to get away from all the tourist and craziness of the Tetons! Plus it is only about a 90 minute drive to Yellowstone National Park.
If you are looking for a cabin in the mountains that gives you that peaceful and relaxed vibe this is the place for you! And let me tell you after visiting the amazing but REALLY busy Tetons or Yellowstone you will appreciate driving up into the mountains to relax.
Our cabin had 2 double beds and a pull out couch bed so all 6 of us could sleep comfortably. They also allow pets so our dog Indy was able to come and stay in the room with us. There was a stove top (no oven just 2 stove top burners), a microwave, fridge, plates, silverware, cups, coffee maker and coffee.
There were 2 TV’s with cable and the lodges Wifi was good for checking email plus the kids were able to stream on their tablets. They have an onsite laundry place where you can do a load of wash for $1.50 and dry for about $1.
There are 2 hot tubs on the property. We really enjoyed going as a family to soak in the hot tub after a long day of hiking in the Tetons! They provide towels at the hot tub and a limit of 6 people per tub – so be prepared it could be filled when you get there.
There are 2 restaurants on site. The Red Fox Saloon and Grizzly Grill. Both have a similar menu but a different atmosphere.
The Grizzly Grill is a restaurant setting. They offer dinner and breakfast with waitress service. They also have a kids menu very reasonably priced at around $6. There were also vegetarian options available.
We ate breakfast here and the kids got the buffet – contential breakfast style with oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, muffins, cinnamon rolls, fruit, etc. And Craig and I ordered a hot meal. I got the pancakes and he got a skillet. Everything was very good!
Red Fox Saloon
We opted to eat dinner in the Red Fox Saloon which is more of a bar setting. There is one room with the bar in it and then a room next to it with arcade games and more tables. We opted for this choice since then we didn’t have to worry about the kids being super quiet during dinner!
To order here you go up to the bar to order your food and drinks and then they bring them out. The menu is basically the same as the Grizzly Grill so it more has to do with the atmoshpere you are looking for.
We really liked that there were 2 options for eating and that we didn’t have to drive somewhere to find something to eat.
There are a few activities that they offer right from the hotel. We didn’t get a chance to do any of them but would love to come back to try them in the future!
Horseback Riding – They have a stables right on property and rides go out daily. They will take you on trails that explore the beautiful Grand Tetons wilderness.
Wyoming Cowboy Campout – This looked like an awesome adventure that takes you out on horses for a night of camping. They set your tents up for you, cook your meals, and you learn about the area around you from your guide. It sounds like so much fun!!
Mountain Biking Tour – You are in the mountains so I can only imagine how amazing the trails must be. There are tours that leave directly from the lodge and the expert guides from Teton Mountain Bike Tours will show you all the best places to go!
There are of course plenty of fishing and hiking opportunities in the area as well and the front desk staff will be happy to guide you on where to go. V
Like I had mentioned you are about a 40 minute drive to the Grand Tetons and the drive to get there is breathtaking. You get multiple amazing views of the Tetons as you are driving in. We always recommend stopping at the Visitor Center first to decide what you are going to do when you visit. The Jenny Lake Visitor center is the closest.
There are also a lot of things to do around the Grand Tetons like visit Jackson Hole, Slide Lake and Teton Village. You can learn more about that here: http://www.crazyfamilyadventure.com/grand-tetons-family-friendly/
It would take about 90 minutes to get to Yellowstone and due to the size of the park an additional 2 hours or more if you wanted to reach the north end of the park. The South Entrance is closest and provides plenty of site seeing opportunities. If you are able to plan a day there is a lot of things you can see in Yellowstone! Here is our Yellowstone page for more information on what to see and do: http://www.crazyfamilyadventure.com/yellowstone-national-park/
If you are looking for a mountain getaway within driving distance to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons this is the place for you!
