Chattanooga’s Tennessee Aquarium is pulling out all the stops this holiday season with its annual Holidays Under the Peaks celebration, running from now through Dec. 29. Just a couple of hours from Atlanta, this festive event promises a mix of underwater magic, seasonal sights, and family-friendly fun.
As you enter the Aquarium’s River Journey building, the holiday cheer is immediate—seasonal tunes and festive décor greet guests. One standout feature is the dazzling Christmas tree synced to the jolts of Miguel Wattson, the Aquarium’s electric eel.
SCUBA Claus Makes a Splash
A true highlight is the appearance of SCUBA Claus, who takes to the water in the River Giants and Tennessee River exhibits every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. from Nov. 28 to Dec. 25. Picture this: Santa diving alongside massive freshwater fish, spreading holiday cheer underwater. Atlanta families will love the chance to whisper wishes through the acrylic as Santa works his underwater magic.
Polar Express Pajama Party
Across the street at the IMAX 3D Theater, the holiday favorite Polar Express 3D will return for daily showings from Nov. 29 to Dec. 29. For an extra special experience, snag tickets to the PJs & The Polar Express 3D event on Saturday, Dec. 14. Kids can enjoy the movie in their coziest pajamas while sipping on hot cocoa. Doors open at 9:15 a.m.
More Family-Friendly Films
Beyond Polar Express, the IMAX 3D Theater offers a stellar lineup, including Moana 2 (Nov. 27–Dec. 12) and Mufasa: The Lion King (starting Dec. 20). Nature enthusiasts can also catch short 45-minute films like Animal Kingdom 3D, Blue Whales: Return of the Giants 3D, and T. REX 3D for an educational and thrilling cinematic adventure.
Cool Creatures and Surprises
Aquarium educators will offer impromptu talks about the cold-weather habitats, including Penguins’ Rock and Vancouver Island exhibits. These spontaneous insights are perfect for curious kids and adults alike.
Special Holiday Membership Deals
Looking for a gift idea? An Aquarium Membership is the gift that keeps on giving, with prices starting at $135. Members enjoy unlimited visits to the Aquarium and IMAX 3D films, making it an ideal option for families who love repeat adventures.
Animal Crossing Fun for Gamers
From Dec. 21 to Feb. 28, the Aquarium will host an Animal Crossing: New Horizons Aquarium Tour, featuring photo ops, interactive stamp rallies, and game-inspired exhibits. This is an especially exciting treat for families with younger Animal Crossing fans.
Whether you’re in it for SCUBA Claus, the Polar Express, or the animal-themed fun, this event is a quick and memorable road trip from Atlanta. Plan your visit at tnaqua.org/holidays.
