Standup comedy has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. After being beaten down 2020 style and forced to perform on-line or in parking lots (“Hey folks – where’s my Range Rovers at?” – David Spade), standup came roaring back, and oh did they bring the angsty material with them.
In fact, the art form has never been so prolific. Avalon in Alpharetta is bringing it as well with chance to see some real standup, but you only have two dates left, so plan accordingly.
Alpharetta’s own Avalon has been hosting Punchline Comedy Night on the first Monday of every month since April. There’s only two dates left, Monday, September 9th and Monday, October 7th, both starting at 7:30pm. The September date was moved to the second Monday due to Labor Day. The event takes place at Palmer Plaza, the green space between Oak Steakhouse and Colletta.
The show is recommended for ages 13+ and lasts about 90 minutes. The Punchline Comedy Club in Atlanta provides the talent, which is likely a few highly-tuned locals. Remember folks, the comedy bar has been raised the last few years, and many cities now include a rising comedy scene of locals perfecting and tightening their craft on stage during the week.
I also think this is a great opportunity to introduce your kids to this amazing art form in an affordable and easy way. How does free sound? 13+ makes me think it won’t be a completely clean show, but won’t be raunchy either. Would we bring our 11 year-old? Absolutely we would.
Avalon encourages you to bring your own tailgate chairs to watch the show on the lawn. The event is subject to be postponed due to weather and a new date will be posted. In the event of inclement weather, a cancellation notice will be posted on our social media (@avaloninsider)
Coolers are not permitted, but you can pick up to-go dinner and drinks from Avalon restaurants. (Specialty food & drink menus will be provided by Oak Steakhouse and Colletta)
