Miniature Train Rides Roll Through the Georgia International Horse Park

If you’ve never experienced the magic of riding a miniature train, you’re missing out on one of Georgia’s most charming little adventures. Nestled within the sprawling 1,400-acre Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, the North Georgia Live Steamers (NGLS) bring the joy of railroading to life with their seasonal public train rides.

Miniature Train Rides Roll Through the Georgia International Horse Park

This isn’t your average amusement park ride. The trains at NGLS are built and maintained by passionate railroad enthusiasts, and they operate like real locomotives—just in a scaled-down version. Sitting just a few feet off the ground, riders get to enjoy the sensation of a classic train journey, complete with the rhythmic clickety-clack of the tracks and the occasional steam whistle. For train lovers, history buffs, and families looking for a unique day out, it’s a must-visit.

2025 Train Ride Schedule

Mark your calendars—NGLS runs its public train rides on select Saturdays throughout the year:

  • April 5
  • May 17
  • October 4
  • November 1

Rides operate from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and each ride is just $2 per person, payable in cash on-site. Keep in mind that riders must be at least 18 months old, and for safety reasons, expectant mothers should not ride.

A Ride Through History and Nostalgia

Miniature trains like these aren’t just a fun novelty—they represent a deep love for railroading history. The volunteers at NGLS meticulously maintain these engines and tracks, making sure every ride is as smooth and authentic as possible. Some of these miniature locomotives are steam-powered, just like their full-size counterparts from the golden age of rail travel. It’s not uncommon to see engineers in traditional overalls and conductor caps, adding to the old-school charm.

The setting itself makes the ride even more special. The Georgia International Horse Park, known for hosting equestrian events during the 1996 Olympics, provides a beautiful backdrop for the trains as they weave through the scenic landscape. Depending on the season, you might ride under a canopy of golden autumn leaves or through the fresh greenery of spring. It’s a peaceful, picturesque way to spend an afternoon.

More Than Just a Ride

For those who find themselves fascinated by the world of trains, NGLS offers more than just public ride days. The organization is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing the joy of live steam and model railroading. They host private events and encourage new members to get involved. If you’ve ever wanted to learn the ins and outs of operating a miniature locomotive, volunteering with NGLS is a great way to dive in.

So, whether you’re introducing a little one to their first train ride or reliving childhood memories yourself, the North Georgia Live Steamers promise a ride full of nostalgia, craftsmanship, and good old-fashioned fun.
