The Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida boasts about being the home of destination paradise and 5’Oclock somewhere with good reason. Jimmy Buffett sings about paradise but here you actually get to walk in the door to feel it your whole visit.
The Margaritaville Hollywood team has created the perfect luxury, beachfront resort experience for families of all ages and sizes to truly become Parrothead and Parakeets. It starts to happen the minute that you walk into the grand lobby complete with the giant blue flip flop and margarita glass chandeliers or observing the sun over the water views found in every room.
It only continues when you have your first margarita in your personal blender and say “It’s 5’Oclock somewhere…” You’ll know it’s confirmed when you’re singing “Cheeseburger in Paradise” along with the hall music as you walk towards a restaurant to find an actual cheeseburger. Here are six reasons why my family feels like Margaritaville Hollywood should be top of the list for family’s looking for a luxury beach vacation.
Every Room is Destination Paradise at Margaritaville Hollywood
We had the pleasure of staying in two rooms over the course of our stay. Both were amazing and moved Margaritaville to the absolute top of my list for future visits. Our first was an oceanfront King room; which is perfect for a couple or even a solo retreat. The theming from the hotel is reflected in the room with light open colors and the breeze of the beach. There’s also a signature pillow that reminds you to relax with ‘Change in Attitude, Change in Latitude’.
To ensure that you relax well, there are sitting areas both inside and out of the room. Every room has a balcony with two Adirondack chairs for unspoiled water views of either the Atlantic Ocean or the Intercostal waterway. If we had to do a little work while on vacation, the large desk was more than comfortable to spread out and get to work.
Our second room was a two bedroom oceanfront sunrise suite. The sunrise suite features a central living space with a lounge area and dining table seating four that walks out on the private balcony. On either side of the living room are the two bedrooms. I envisioned this suite as an ideal place to serve as a gathering area for a family who was sharing a vacation. There is plenty of room for everyone to gather and celebrate or just watch a movie.
The first bedroom has two queen beds and its own private bathroom along with floor to ceiling windows facing the Atlantic Ocean. As a mom, I was thrilled to see that this room didn’t have balcony access from the bedroom. I wouldn’t have been able to relax as easily with my boys sleeping in a room with direct access to a balcony on the 14th floor.
The Master bedroom is similar to the first king room with a few upgrades. As compared to the single chairs in the standard king room, there is a larger sitting area featuring a loveseat. An additional upgrade in this suite was the vanity area ideal for doing your makeup and fully supports the idea that you’re on a luxury vacation. Sunrises were absolutely spectacular with two Adirondack chairs and access to the balcony shared with the living room.
Nine year old boys aren’t usually big on bathrooms so when my son asked if we could have the same type of showerhead at home, I would guess that the bathrooms were something to rave about. I’m not sure if it was only the rain showerhead or dual showerheads or maybe even the fin water faucets. All I know is that we adored the bathrooms. You’ll feel like you never left the beach when stepping into the oversized showers. I personally adored the dark vanities and really wanted to bring home the bathrooms if nothing else.
Every Guest Will Find Their Favorite Pool at Margaritaville
Margaritaville Hollywood offers three pool options. Two of the pools, LandShark and Lone Palm, are on the ground level of the resort while the third, an adults-only option License to Chill, is located on the 11th floor. The LandShark Pool is located directly next to the Activities Desk and under the LandShark Bar and Grill.
LandShark is the more popular pool for families because of its water slide and waterfall but it was just as fun for floating around and making sure we had “fins up.” LandShark captured the ‘party pool’ with the staff at the Activities desk organizing various games and entertainment options. My family did spend most of our time at the LandShark finding space to practice our swimming.
Lone Palm is slightly more relaxed but still welcoming to families. The soundtrack at Lone Palm is more ‘Son of a Son of a Sailor’ than ‘Fins’. While the LandShark is adjacent to the LandShark Bar and Grill, the Lone Palm hosts the Lone Palm Beach Bar and a Jacuzzi. Both the pools also had poolside lunch service from the LandShark Bar & Grill. The hotel was actually at 100% occupancy during our visit but we never felt like the pools were too crowded or were unable to find lounge chairs.
The ‘secret’ pool, License to Chill, is high on the list of my favorite places to play. It’s an adult only pool that overlooks the ocean. My husband and I checked the kids into the Parakeets Kid’s Club one afternoon and it took our chill level to – 10. There were several other guests around but there seems to be an unspoken understanding that this is a place for relaxing and calming conversations. The pool itself even has a bench in the side so you can look out into the ocean while hearing the soft music in the background after picking up a drink at the bar.
An Award Winning Beach at the Margaritaville Hollywood
Going to a beach resort, there are certain expectations of the beach. You want it to be clean, have great sand, and a little shade would be nice. The beach for guests of Margaritaville is actually part of the Hollywood, Florida public beach and right outside of the resort, literally 20 feet across the Broadwalk. It completely earned its rating as one of America’s Best Beach Boardwalks by Travel + Leisure magazine.
The soft white sand is everything that you’d hope and expect it to be. The resort staff does a great job of manicuring the sand so it was always perfect to play in.
One of the reasons that I fell in love with Margaritaville is because they provided the perfect beach set-up included within our stay. Even though it’s a stretch of public beach, there is a beachfront rental cabana and guests of the resort only have to provide their room number for a complimentary umbrella and two lounge chairs that they’ve already set up for you. All you have to do is just pick out your perfect spot and they’ll walk you right over and adjust everything for it.
Along with picking out your perfect spot on the sand to relax, Margaritaville went a step further and provides all your favorite sand toys to borrow. I’ll admit that I was a little bummed because I forgot our stash of sand toys at home and didn’t want to buy yet more to add to the pile. My boys were thrilled to find that Margaritaville offers a lending closet full of sand toys through the activity center. We just asked and were told to pick out anything we wanted.
I want a vacation that doesn’t require a ton of extra effort, special packing lists or additional planning on my part. Having these extras for our beach fun included helped solidify that we will be returning to this location; they think of everything so it’s not just a family trip but a true vacation for the parents (honestly, mostly moms) as well.
Fun Activities Beyond the Beach
While playing in the beach and pool are is a central part of your resort experience, Margaritaville Hollywood offers a variety of activities with something for everyone over the course of your stay. From watersports to bike riding or spa visits and even board games for rainy days, the Activity Desk helps guests find the attraction that will help them find ‘Destination Paradise’.
Activities Desk is the central hub for coordinating entertainment options. Staff hosts different games and contests like beach volleyball, sandcastle building, and t-shirt tie-dyeing similarly to other beach resorts. They also serve as the hub for bike rentals (an hour each day is included free in your visit) and lending of board games for rainy days.
Surfers or those who want to be surfers don’t have to wait to catch a perfect wave in the ocean and could hope on the beachside FlowRider. Riders can sign up for either a 30 minute session or full day pass. We weren’t quite brave enough to jump on a board but the coaches standing on the side made everyone who tried look like a pro with just a few minutes of training in each session.
Spa lovers will be just as thrilled as the surfers with the full service options in the St. Somewhere Spa. I didn’t opt to make a visit to the spa on this trip but did take a tour to see what I was missing. Like everything else in the resort, the spa will make you leave all your cares at the door.
There are eleven treatment rooms, a co-ed hot tub, sauna and steam rooms as well as women’s/men’s lounge areas to wait for your services. Resort guests are able to purchase a day pass if they choose to indulge in the spa area while guests who receive a service have access the full day of their service.
Fine Dining to Beachside Casual Is All Covered At Margaritaville Hollywood
With the name Margaritaville, you might have guessed the signature house drink. You actually can find it at most of the eight onsite dining options and even by the pool. I had one (okay more than one) in the signature personal blender glass by the pool as a celebratory libation. The Margaritas aren’t too strong of a drink and help set the relaxation destination. Our visit we opted for casual dining however the Margaritaville theme carried though the variety of onsite options and left something to try on our next visits.
The upscale dining option on the property is JWB Prime Steak and Seafood. It is a new concept within the Margaritaville brand. Its menu featured fresh seafood, steaks and a raw bar along with white tablecloth service for a romantic date night or business dinner to close the deal. It’s right off the hotel lobby and doesn’t require a jacket but reservations are requested.
Our lunches by the pool were served from the LandShark Bar & Grill. Guests who climb out of the water can visit the rooftop deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or the Flowrider. The menu is casual with a mix of burgers, salads and sandwiches. The fish sandwiches were grilled to perfection on a warmly toasted bun.
Room service featured a full menu for the night when we were too drained from the sun to go out for dinner. We were able to enjoy the upscale menu of JWB with a seafood macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese was a huge portion of luxe and creamy cheese sauce filled with crab and shrimp that I wanted to ship home to Atlanta.
The dessert didn’t disappoint either with a smooth and tangy Key Lime Pie for dessert. Even though we ordered through room service, the food was served at the perfect temperature with no delays.
Rounding out the onsite dining options are the namesake Margaritaville restaurant, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill, Floridays Airstream Café, License to Chill Bar and Margaritaville Coffee Shop. Each has their own niche for dining but they all have the welcoming laid-back vibe of destination paradise.
Why to Choose Margaritaville Hollywood
Margaritaville Hollywood does a great job of making parties and groups of all sizes feel at home. We loved it for a family vacation but we met all sorts of guests during our visit and they all had a fantastic experience. There were larger groups of families including everyone from infants to grandparents celebrating birthdays. We met couples of all ages from a newly married celebrating their honeymoon to an older couple who we reminded them of their grandchildren.
Considering that it fits so many different types of families, I picture Margaritaville as a destination to experience multiple times and at least once as a multi-generational family experience. They even host weddings onsite so it is an ideal location for a destination wedding without having to leave the country.
With the different options for dining, the spa services and the other activities, there are so many unique ways to experience Margaritaville Hollywood and find your own Destination Paradise!
