We spent an entire date night weekend with Loews Atlanta Hotel in Midtown- it was relaxing, romantic, exhilarating…and delicious.
Here are seven reasons why I highly recommend a date night escape Loews Atlanta Hotel.
Suites that are Grand
The Grand Suite was spacious but romantic and an ideal destination for our escape. Clean lines, marble floors and neutral colors created a modern and fresh place to unwind.
The living area included two comfy sofas and a large flat panel TV. From the 25th floor, we spent our time looking out over Midtown via the floor-to-ceiling windows, though. The views were magnificent in the day and the evening.
The living area was separate from the sleeping area, which included a true king bed that was exceptionally comfy. There was also another TV and a large dresser.
The bathroom was grand, as well, with an oversized tub, large shower and double vanity. I loved the marble creams and blacks…so fresh and modern.
When you are on date night, just achieving respite from reality is bonus enough…but there are certain perks and privileges that can make your escape even better.
Thanks to Loews Atlanta for offering a later checkout than most other hotels. After painting the town red, a noontime checkout was appreciated. There was also a state-of-the-art fitness center, valet parking, free internet for a good-night Facetime session with the kiddos and 24/7 in-room dining options.
Also on site was Market eleven, with Starbucks coffee and pastries from Loews Pastry Chef Arlety Estevez. You can even find a “picnic-to-go.” If you, like us, need to find a special treat for the grandparents/babysitter or the kiddos during your escape, Market eleven also includes gifts from local attractions and artisans.
Couples Massage with exhale Spa
You might be familiar with exhale Spa already, a premier barre, yoga and spa business with locations at Avalon, Inman Park and within Loews Atlanta. The Loews location is an award-winning flagship site that includes a spa, a gym and a boutique fitness studio.
Annbeth Escbach, the CEO and founder, dreamed of creating a unique brand that integrated transformational mind body spa and boutique fitness classes under one roof. While she achieved this in locations all over the world, the Loews Atlanta location is a wonderful example of her dream-come-reality.
We enjoyed a couple’s massage with exhale Spa. It was our first couple’s massage, but we made the decision afterward that it would not be our last. I cannot recommend this more as a way to kick start your couple’s getaway. Because the two of us shared a couple’s therapy room, we were together, enjoying the experience. AND when we left, we felt so refreshed…it didn’t take the typical “few hours” to shrug off the memories of laundry, bills, homework questions or ailing parents…when we headed back to the hammam and sauna rooms after the massage, those things were far far behind me.
Dinner at Saltwood
Saltwood is a charcuterie and small-plates restaurant located in Loews Atlanta. It’s named perfectly defines the experience…salt-cured meats which are spectacularly presented on gorgeous blocks of rustic, smooth wood. You can visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner, Sunday brunch, or simply for drinks and desserts.
We visited for an early dinner, starting with drinks and a beautiful charcuterie board that included country pate, hand-shaved salami and cured ham, pickled pineapple and cauliflower (divine!!) and two amazing cheeses from local farmers…my favorite was the Green Hill from Georgia’s Sweet Grass dairy farm…it was a double cream cheese like a camembert.
When you order a charcuterie board, you select the meats and cheeses from a large selection so you know you will be getting something you love. We sampled a few more selections from the menu, but this is also a great place to stop in just for the charcuterie board…maybe for a light snack before a late dinner. We also learned that the restaurant is in the middle of adding its own curing room to the hotel, so the meats that are brought in locally now will soon be hand-cured right on the premises.
We also tried the lamb skewers which were amazing. I highly recommend them…the flavors were reminiscent of an authentic gyro, but they were served conveniently on a stick, with a mint chimichurri and a light kimchi salad to offset the heat.
Full entrees are available, as well. We split the Cornbread and Apple Stuffed Southeast Farm Pork Tenderloin. The pork was tender and juicy – not always an easy feat when served stuffed with dressing. The dressing was also moist and delicious. I loved how it was served atop a cream of celery puree, with bites of cauliflower. It was filling and fresh, and delicious.
One final note…as a food and travel writer, I don’t always get to enjoy “paleo” cuisine when I am eating out like I do at home, but Saltwood is an exceptional example to that rule. If you also try to avoid carbs or gluten, then Saltwood is ideal!
Kuddos to Executive Chef Olivier Gaupin and Sous Chefs Mouhssine Benhamacht and Jeremy Williamson for an amazing restaurant concept that truly delivers.
After dinner, we arrived back at the room to a suite filled with rose petals and a sidetable of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries. I felt completely spoiled!
The Redefining Romance Package includes all of this, plus valet parking. It’s the ideal package for a date night escape.
You might also consider other packages at Loews, like the couples VIP Aquarium package which includes aquarium tickets and complimentary transportation…or the exhale Spa Relax & Renew Package, with a therapy session, VIP access to the fitness center, use of the spa facilities and a gift package from the Spa.
The morning before we headed back to the realities of life, we visited exhale Spa one more time for a morning fitness session. We had the choice of a barre class, cardio workout or yoga. Hubs and I both love the stretching and strength training yoga offers, so we joined the 9am flow yoga class, which focuses primarily on mindfulness and stretching and breathing.
Once again, exhale Spa to the rescue. The class made me feel refreshed after a night on the town (and ok, maybe a few drinks…) It helped center me as I prepared to head back to real-life, and the session stayed with me throughout the day as I prepped for the upcoming week.
Our class was filled with newbies and experts, so don’t worry about your experience level. There were also mats and towels available. The instructor was experienced, calm and welcoming…and I love that we all faced out the window at the glorious spring sunshine while breathing and stretching in unison.
Lowes Atlanta is located right in the heart of Midtown, so there is plenty of things to do and places to visit within walking distance. While we were there, we took advantage of being without kiddos and within walking distance of Laughing Skull Lounge. We took in a 10:30 show and saw Bobcat Goldthwait, as well as a few other local comedians. This was the third or fourth show we’ve seen here…I highly recommend taking a look at their lineup if you are in the area; again Loews is the ideal location to stay for a visit….the 1/3 mile walk only takes about 2-3 minutes.
We also visited Sweet Hut bakeshop, which we passed on the way to Laughing Skull. Influenced by his Chinese/Asian culinary experience, Howie Ewe, the founder and executive chef, provides the ultimate experience of desserts. You’ll find lovely twists on American favorites…it was a first visit and reminded me of my favorite cafes in Japan, with Nutella donuts, red bean paste treats, and savory buns. They stay open until 1am on Friday and Saturday nights, so they are a great late-night stop. In fact, I loved it so much I made hubby bring me back here after yoga the next day.
Overall – Loews was a FANTASTIC date night experience that I HIGHLY recommend. Luxurious suites, romantic spoils, couples spa escapes, delicious and unique dining, refreshing yoga and the ideal Midtown location….you can’t ask for much more!
