Art Farm at Serenbe announced their first musical theatre production, Little Shop of Horrors, premiering this September as part of the Under the Tent Series in Serenbe. This innovative version of the show is adapted specifically for the traveling big-top tent.
Tickets are available to purchase now for the show which will run from September 20-29.
Little Shop of Horrors, written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken and loosely based on the 1960 film of the same name, follows the story of Seymour Krelborn, a meek floral assistant who accidentally grows a man-eating carnivorous plant, leading to chaos and violence.
The show, which originally premiered Off-Broadway in 1982, became a smash hit and a cult classic beloved for its dark humor, campy charm, and memorable musical score.
“We are thrilled to add a musical theatre production to our extensive programming this year,” said Art Farm’s Executive Director Madalyn Mentor. “Along with Matt Logan, we will be creating a truly spectacular version of this beloved cult classic. Not to mention it will be under a big-top tent, which just adds to the excitement and wow factor. We already know audiences are going to love it.”
The performance will feature innovative staging by director Matt Logan (Studio Tenn, The Hiding Place) and a brand-new concept design from the MA2LA creative team, also based in Nashville.
Art Farm’s Under the Tent Series launched in 2023, drawing audiences from Atlanta and beyond for a two-week run of electrifying performances, including a circus show by Les Farfadais underneath a traveling big-top tent.
“Partnering with Matt Logan Productions allows us to offer an incredibly high caliber of talent for this large-scale musical in the woods,” said Art Farm’s Program Director Brandon Copeland. “Combining these performances with the Les Farfadais circus for our second annual Under the Tent Series offers options for audiences of all ages to experience the arts in the south.”
Little Shop of Horrors will run in Serenbe from September 20-29. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased here.
Little Shop of Horrors is rated PG-13 by Musical Theatre International. While campy and light-hearted in tone, the show contains language and violence that could be inappropriate for younger children.
