I…Indoor Playgrounds Beat The Dog-Days Of Summer

When you live in the South, you learn that there are only two seasons; hot or cold. Sometimes it’s just hot and rainy also. On days when it is just too hot, or the forecast is calling for a week of rain, you have to find other ways to have fun.

Luckily, there are some great options to reduce cabin fever. Here are some of my favorite indoor playground ideas.

Your local family friendly museum is a great place not only to burn off some energy, but you can discover new things (or old things). Fernbank Museum is my favorite museum in Atlanta for indoor play. The Nature Quest area is the ultimate place for kids to play, game, climb, crawl, and learn. They also have an IMAX theater that will take your breath away with the latest nature movie. Take a drive and discover a new museum; Tellus Science Museum and The Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville both have children play areas that are loads of fun.

Another not to miss is the Children’s Museum of Atlanta. It recently went through a huge renovation and now has some really cool things to see. They even created more space to play up the musical piano stairs. You can get free tickets during Target Free Second Tuesday.

Stop the kids from bouncing off the walls by finding a bouncy place to play. From indoor inflatable bounce houses to indoor trampoline parks, you and your family can bounce like crazy. It can be a good workout for your legs too! Some of my favorites are Sky Zone Trampoline Park and Monkey Joe’s. The kids can work up a good sweat, and when you leave, they are almost guaranteed to take a nap from being so tired.

Get competitive and head to an entertainment center like Main Event Entertainment, Bowlero (formally US Play), Stars and Strikes or Andretti Indoor Karting. You can bowl, play arcade games, and even go-karts! Make sure you check out your local entertainment centers to see what they have to offer. Some are bigger than others and have a lot more to do. They also offer discounts and specials to get people in the door during slow times.

I suggest avoiding the nighttime crowd because it is usually mostly adults and the alcohol is flowing. Our local Main Event even opens early when school is out to get people in the door. You won’t find those times on Google. You have to call and check their website. We were the only ones bowling last time! It was cool having the place to ourselves. Imagine, no waiting for laser tag or gameplay. Take advantage of the Kids Bowl Free summer program. Good for 2 free games EVERY DAY all summer long.

Indoor playgrounds are a rare commodity I’m so glad someone thought to jump on. The best example of this is Catch Air, which has multiple locations around the Metro Atlanta area. With lots of slides, tunnels and more, you can let the kids run wild for a little while. Another great place to check out is the LEGOLAND Discovery Center. The LEGOLAND Discovery Center have rides, building activities, a 4D theater, and a playground to climb over making this a great all day adventure in Phipps Plaza.

So don’t fret about beating the heat (or rain) this summer because there are plenty of places to burn off some energy and even learn. Cabin fever can be the worst and sitting in front of a screen is mind numbing. Here is a great list of some of the best Indoor Playgrounds in the Metro Atlanta area to find one near you.

When thinking about summer fun one of my family’s favorite “cool down” places to visit is the Alliance Theatre.
