On our last date night of 2016 we stayed at Hotel Indigo Atlanta in the heart of Downtown on Peachtree Street. It was our first stay at a Hotel Indigo, and oh how unique it was! From the architecture to the spa-inspired bathroom to the perfect in-town location. Read on to hear five reasons why you need a date night escape at this unique downtown oasis.
The architecture and modern design
You may not know the name John Portman, but you know his work. He’s an architect that designed such buildings as the cubic design of Hartsfield-Jackson, and Atlanta’s staple hotels such as the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Hyatt Regency and Westin Peachtree Plaza. If you have the chance, see some of his other amazing work like the Waldorf Astoria in Shanghai or The Park Hyatt luxury hotel in India.
Portman designed the building holding Hotel Indigo Atlanta, with a breathtaking post-modern feel. The multi-story curved glass staircase that greets you at the entrance will draw you in to this rich design. Just beyond the staircase is a circular bar with floating mirrors and modern murals that let you know what to expect as you head to your room.
The rooms are modern minimalist, with just the perfect amenities – valet parking on Peachtree, a coffee maker, large TV, spa-like bathrooms, free Wi-Fi and more. A small detail that I adore? Heavy grey twill curtains cover the floor-to-ceiling windows with double overlap so that you can sleep-in in peace. I also loved the shower with dual heads and plenty of space.
A boutique hotel with big-name perks
Hotel Indigo Atlanta offers all the charm of a quaint boutique hotel, with quality service, limited rooms, and a definite individualistic vibe. In fact, every Hotel Indigo across the globe is different and reflects the local flavor of the neighborhood in which it resides.
It’s hard to believe this space is part of an international brand – IHG. What that means for you is that you can cash in on your IHG Rewards Club points.
Don’t forget to consider the other Hotel Indigo stays across Georgia – Athens, the Airport, Midtown, Vinings and Savannah. again, each one is unique to it’s location, so you never stay in the same place twice.
Romantic food and drink
There are some terrific restaurants just right out the door of Hotel Indigo Atlanta, but you don’t have to leave the hotel if you don’t want to. Grab a drink at the gorgeous round bar downstairs or order room service until 9pm. And don’t forget a breakfast buffet that will jump start your morning.
I love the restaurant (JP Atlanta,) with more gorgeous murals, white seating with red accents, and romantic private dining nooks.
If you decide to head out, we recommend the following places within walking distance of the hotel: Ray’s In The City, The Sun Dial, Polaris, White Oak Kitchen, and Watershed.
Location, location, location
Hotel Indigo Atlanta is in the heart of the city, very close to the CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park and the romantic Sky View Ferris wheel, Georgia Aquarium, College Football Hall of Fame, and so many more Downtown Atlanta attractions. We also love to catch shows at The Tabernacle or Sweet Georgia’s Juke Box, which are also nearby.
It’s also the only Atlanta hotel build right over a Marta Station (Peachtree Center.) No, you don’t hear the rumble or the crowd, but you do get to take advantage of the access point to everything Atlanta offers. (Or you can still do what we do and Uber everywhere.)
Posh digs that are Fido-friendly
Traveling with your pooch? Or want to enjoy the city without leaving your best friend behind? No worries! Pets under 40 pounds are welcome with a deposit and small fee. Can you imagine the smells your pup would adore when exploring Downtown!
Disclosure: Thanks to Hotel Indigo Atlanta for hosting us. Opinions here are our own.
