What the Heck is Hot Slaw? [Festival News]

Have you heard of hot slaw? I had not, but it sure sounds delicious.

Straight from the horses mouth, “Hot slaw is a unique side dish or topping not familiar to many menus… UNLESS you are in Cleveland, Tennessee. The mustard, mayo, secret sauce concoction is famous and common around these parts, but that is apparently not the case elsewhere.” So beloved in the town of Cleveland, TN, they created a whole festival around here. Here’s the info.

The main difference between hot slaw and regular coleslaw is in it’s mustardy, peppery flavor. Folks enjoy it on the side, and of course, on a nice and dirty hot dog or sausage.

Each year in in April, Cleveland, TN hosts the Hot Slaw Festival, a fun and tasty event with live music, an artist’s marketplace, and of course, plenty of hot slaw and the entrees that go with it.

“Organizers plan to celebrate the community’s hot slaw heritage with the National Hot Slaw Festival, dubbed Hot Slaw and Art Y’all! The event is set for April 6, 2024 in Downtown Cleveland, Noon – 8 p.m. and will stretch from Central along Ocoee to Parker along First with the Courthouse in the center.”

Cleveland, TN is located about two hours (120 miles) from Atlanta, just northeast of Chattanooga.
