When you’re visiting the white sands of Gulf Shores, hotels on the beach are desirable…but a condo? That’s even more ideal. It includes more living space, kitchen benefits, and other amenities that can make for an easier family getaway.
Our family stayed in this unit at the San Carlos condo, managed through Laura’s Vacation Rentals. It was AMAZING! When we head back (and we WILL be back) I look forward to staying there again. Here are 5 reasons why we believe your family should do the same.
Beach View and Access. If you ask me, this is the coolest perk of them all. From our balcony, we could see and hear the gorgeous gulf, with the most perfect of breezes. We watched the sun rise over the water to the left, and set on the water to the right. it was nothing short of spectacular.
Additionally, a quick ride down the elevator and over the boardwalk…and we were running our toes through Alabama’s soft sand. Easy-peasy. You’ll never want to lug beach paraphernalia across the road (or via your car) again.
Great Floor Plan. This condo was a 2 bedroom/2 bath that slept 4 comfortably…6 if you wanted to pull out the couch. But, honestly, it was HUGE! There was so much space, and for that I am grateful.
I loved the open floor plan, so I could be in the kitchen and keep an eye on the boys as they enjoyed the view from the balcony. I also appreciated that the entire condo was either hardwood or tile, because…sand! The foyer was also large – great for holding our towels and pool toys.
We had a large dining room table that offered us space to play games at night (we are HUGE fans of Exploding Kittens and take that game everywhere,) but there was also bar stools for pulling up to the counter at breakfast.
Each bedroom had a private bath. The Master bath included a large tub with jets plus a shower and a great walk-in closet. Another thing I really liked? The bedrooms were on opposite sides of the condo. This meant we were able to put the boys to sleep in their bed, and still watch TV in our room without bothering them.
But I’ll be honest…I only watched it a moment. I preferred to open the large glass doors, lounge on the bed, and listed to the waves. Heaven.
Covered Parking. We visited in November, so this wasn’t as big a deal (though it did hit 90 degrees while we were there.) But, I hate coming out to a hot car. Covered parking made protected the car and also made me feel safe.
Family-Friendly Pool. You have an incredible beach to play on, so the pool might not be important…but it’s still a novelty to my kiddos. The pool at San Carlos is not too large (which makes it easy to keep an eye on the kids.) It is zero-entry – great for my younger non-swimmer. And it included covered awnings, which let the sun in to warm the water, while offering a bit of shade respite.
Location, Location, Location. We couldn’t have asked for a better location. You can walk to famous restaurant, The Hangout easily from the condo (and in fact, we did…the annual Oyster Cook-Off was AMAZING!) In the other direction is Sea N Suds, with awesome oysters and outdoor seating.
In all honesty – nothing is that far away in the Alabama Beaches area…but having those few choice restaurants nearby is always helpful.
Bottomline. Laura’s Vacation Rentals was easy to work with, affordable, and have a great selection – like the condo we stayed in. But this isn’t the only option – check out this one from their Instagram page (and be sure to click to their IG account for other great examples.)
