Be Part of a Guinness World Record™ Attempt at the 2025 Cherry Blossom Festival

Have you ever wanted to be part of a world record? Not just any record, but one that involves kazoos, history, and a city-wide celebration? This March, Macon is giving you the chance to make history during the 2025 International Cherry Blossom Festival!

Be Part of a Guinness World Record™ Attempt at the 2025 Cherry Blossom Festival

On Friday, March 28, 2025, the Atrium Health Amphitheater will host an attempt to break the Guinness World Record™ for the Largest Kazoo Ensemble. With a current record of 5,190 participants set in London in 2011, Macon is ready to bring the title back to the U.S. where it belongs.

Why Kazoos?

Believe it or not, the kazoo has deep roots in Macon. Legend has it that Alabama Vest, a freed slave, invented the kazoo in the 1840s and introduced it at the Georgia State Fair in Macon under the name “Down South Submarine.” Now, the city is reclaiming its musical legacy with an event unlike any other.

A Celebration of Macon’s Musical Legacy

Macon has long been a hub for musical greats. Otis Redding, Little Richard, James Brown, and The Allman Brothers all have ties to this vibrant city. Even The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix were fans of the kazoo! The record attempt will be led by kazoo expert Rick Hubbard, with kazoos provided for all participants, plus a keepsake to commemorate the event.

More Than Just a Record Attempt

Leading up to the big day, the Tubman Museum, one of the largest museums in the Southeast dedicated to African American history, is hosting a special Kazoo Exhibit. Opened on National Kazoo Day (January 28), this pop-up exhibit will run through March, celebrating over 150 years of kazoo history with rare artifacts and interactive selfie stations. It’s an incredible opportunity to learn about the instrument’s roots and its impact on music worldwide.

Why You Should Go

Not only will Macon turn pink with the bloom of hundreds of thousands of Yoshino cherry trees during the festival, but thousands of people will also gather to help make history. If you’ve ever wanted to be part of something big—something fun—this is your chance. Plus, with all proceeds benefiting the Otis Redding Foundation, you’ll be supporting music education while having an unforgettable experience.
