College Football Hall of Fame Hits a Home Run with New “Double Play” Exhibit

With the MLB All-Star Game heading to Atlanta this July, the College Football Hall of Fame is getting in on the action—and doing it with the kind of cross-sport flair only Atlanta could pull off.

Just in time for the city’s baseball buzz, the Hall has unveiled “Double Play: Stars of the Gridiron & Diamond,” a temporary exhibit honoring the rare athletes who’ve left their cleat marks on both college football fields and Major League Baseball diamonds.

Running through mid-October, the exhibit offers a rare, up-close look at uniforms, gear, and memorabilia from legends who didn’t just play both sports—they dominated them. We’re not talking casual two-sport cameos. We’re talking names like:

  • Deion Sanders (Florida State), with jerseys from his time with the 1994 Braves and 1997 Reds
  • Bo Jackson (Auburn), featuring a classic 1989 Kansas City Royals jersey
  • Kirk Gibson (Michigan State), complete with a 1995 Tigers jersey and game-used glove
  • Jackie Jensen (California), the 1958 AL MVP, repped with Topps cards, a Sports Illustrated cover, and a game-used bat
  • Harry Agganis (Boston University), with shoulder pads, a 1954 glove and bat, and a life-sized statue on loan from The Sports Museum of Boston
  • Greasy Neale, coach and early dual-sport standout, represented with memorabilia dating back to 1919

The whole thing is tucked inside the Hall’s museum just off Centennial Olympic Park, making it an easy stop before or after a Braves game, or as part of your All-Star weekend plans. It’s also a reminder that while Atlanta is serious about baseball, this is still a football town at heart—so why not celebrate both?

The exhibit was curated by Denis Crawford, the Hall’s historian and exhibit designer, who pulled from sports archives and private collections across the country to create something that feels personal and rare.

It’s not just about jerseys and stats—it’s about the stories behind the athletes who made history in both sports. Whether you’re a longtime fan, raising a multi-sport kid, or just curious about the legends who really did it all, this exhibit is a solid reason to visit.

“Double Play” is included with regular admission. Grab tickets at cfbhall.com.
