If you find yourself up near Dillard, Tallulah Gorge, or Black Rock Mountain then be sure to stop at Foxfire Museum. It is right before the entrance into Black Rock Mtn State Park, down an unassuming dirt road, and what waits for you at the end of that road is educational, fun, and inspiring.
The Foxfire Magazine and anthologies are about the self-sufficient life of the Southern Appalachia people of long ago. Students of this program used proceeds from the book to replicate a town from this period. Visitors are free to roam the “community.” You will see homes, a chapel, workshops, and so much more.
