Land to Beech Travels is hosting a fun train ride aboard the Chickamauga Turn that will take you from Atlanta to the historic Civil War town of Chickamauga, GA, via the former Central of Georgia Railroad. This event will take place Saturday, May 18.

Beginning at 7am, passengers will head up to Chattanooga to board the train. During the train trip, you’ll be able to enjoy a 90-minute layover in downtown Chickamauga, where you can visit the historic Crawfish Spring or the Gordon-Lee Mansion, which are across the road from each other. You’ll also find great shops and dining spots in town.

Gordon-Lee Mansion and Crawfish Spring are historically significant for several reasons. The grounds were home to the Cherokee Courthouse prior to the displacement of the Cherokee during the Trail of Tears. The Mansion is one of the few remaining structures used by both Union and Confederate forces during the Battle of Chickamauga in September 1863. Union General William Rosecrans used the parlor of the home as his headquarters during the battle.

Union and Confederate troops were treated in the field hospital in the house and on the grounds during the battle, as well.

In addition to exploring the history of the area, the downtown area will be full of fun too! The weekend of the train ride happens to be the same weekend of the 50th Annual Down Home Days Festival, taking place in Downtown Chickamauga. You’ll find over 160 craft and food vendors, live music, a Kids Zone, pony rides, and more.

After your Chickamauga layover, you’ll board the train and head back to the train depot. Before heading back home to Atlanta, you’ll make a stop at Buc-ee’s!

This event is $110/person and includes the bus ride to and from Atlanta, the train ride to Chickamauga, and a breakfast. The event will last from 7am – 7pm. Tickets are on sale now and can be found here.
