Looking for the perfect gift for someone who has everything? A Friends of Georgia State Parks membership is your solution. Their Put A Little Park In Your Giving promotion runs Nov 18 – 30th, offering a discount on gift memberships.
I know what you’re asking… because I was also confused at first: What is Friends of Georgia State Parks (Friends) and how is a membership there different than a parking pass?
What is the Friends program?
Friends has a mission to partner with, promote and preserve Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites. The work to raise awareness about the value of the parks program, and work with state and community leaders to keep the parks front of mind.
They’re also “parents” to over 50 local state park chapters (Friends of Vogel State Park, Friends of FDR State Park, etc) who support volunteer efforts that have contributed more than 75,000 volunteer hours in 2023. That equates to an in-kind value of over $1.5 million.
And listen…. all of these efforts happen without tax funding. Friends is entirely supported by memberships and donors.
How is a membership different than just an annual pass?
The Georgia State ParkPass covers parking in any Georgia State Park, but that’s all it includes. There are no additional benefits.
With a Friends of GA State Parks and Historic Sites membership, however, you not only get an annual parking pass(es), but you get additional benefits depending on the level of membership you choose.
What are those extra perks?
- Free camping nights
- A ParkPass for a friend
- 10% off lodging discounts
- Free picnic shelter rentals
Yurts, Tents and Lodges, Oh My!
