Have you ever found your photo somewhere you didn’t expect, or worse, your child’s photo? Facebook is a wonderful sharing tool, but if you want to find the best private photo app, you’ll have to look beyond big blue.
The Families Connect App is the online tool helping people stay in touch with those who matter most—families and friends. Using the app members document and share life’s important moments privately and securely with only the family and friends they select. Best of all, it’s Free.
Don’t get me wrong, I still like to share things to Facebook, just not EVERYTHING. Families Connect has an easy toggle to share just the photos you want with the world, and the rest with a pre-selected, invitation only group, which is one of the reasons I think it’s up there as a best private photo app.
More than just the Best App for Private Photos
However, what I liked best about Families Connect isn’t the private photo or video sharing, it was the recipe sharing. How many times have my brothers asked for my mom’s apple cake recipe, or the recipe for Christmas bread, which is actually Swedish coffee bread. I mean, Google will never find the recipe for ‘those green trees’ that are our family’s signature Christmas cookie. As good as Google is, they don’t know that my mom’s green Christmas trees are actually cream cheese press cookies. Plus with this recipe, family members can add comments – like remember how mom used to roll up the extra pieces of pie crust with cinnamon sugar and we got to eat them right out of the oven?
Create a Memory with Families Connect
My mother, who passed away several years ago, was big on creating memories. Sharing memories, and experiences keep people close – even when miles keep them apart. My son did a wonderful project for school where he interviewed my dad about his childhood. The video is a bit long, but it would be fun to have him do a shorter version to share with his cousins who live in NY, DC, PA and North Dakota.
My brother is getting married in September. We’ll all be there, but what a gift to share not only our photos, but our written memories of the day with him. You can in Families Connect. Tie a group of photos, videos, blog posts, and even recipes into one complete ‘memory.’ Use comments to start an ongoing conversation about a particular photo, or story.
How Does Families Connect Work?
I set up my free Families Connect account in less than five minutes. It was easy to navigate and very intuitive. If you are comfortable with Facebook, Families Connect posts are set up in a very similar format. I’m guessing even my 89-year-old technology challenged dad could figure it out. My one complaint is you can only upload one photo at a time. I mean, I have cute kids, I take a lot of photos.
Disclosure: We are happy to partner with Families Connect on this post. We have signed up for a free account and truly think the recipe sharing feature is the bomb.
