The 35th annual Virginia-Highland Summerfest celebrates the season of fun in one of the city’s most charming historic neighborhoods June 9-10, 2018. Presented by the Virginia-Highland Civic Association, Summerfest brings together a juried Artist Market featuring more than 250 artists, the popular Local Market, fantastic live music on multiple stages, children’s activities, a 5K and tasty offerings to eat and drink.
Spring has sprung, and so has Woodruff Park! Beginning in April, Atlantans of all ages and interests will be able to enjoy a full lineup of free community programs that satisfy their appetite for activity.
Spring programs will feature the return of beloved favorites—Saturday morning yoga and twice-a-month history tours—with a few new opportunities, including weekly Wednesday lunch and learns, First Thursday themed game nights, and the return of Food Truck Fridays (beginning in May).

Join Dena Totaro, Wellness Coach, Yoga Instructor and Crystal Energy Healer, in this special 4 week Spring Detox Yoga series where she’ll share her knowledge of healthy food, yoga and crystal energy healing as a multifaceted program for cleansing and clearing.
Each week participants will focus on asana (physical yoga practice), breathwork, meditation and energy work to detox the mind, heart, digestive organs or full body. The Rialto Jazz for Kids Jazz Jam showcases Atlanta’s most talented young jazz artists. The Jazz Jam offers a rare opportunity to see the next generation of jazz musicians from metro Atlanta middle schools debut on the Rialto stage!
Moonlight Through the Pines, The Nature Conservancy of Georgia’s 24th annual celebration for conservation is chaired by Nancy Clair and Steve McInaney, and will feature live music from The Sundogs and gourmet cuisine by Dennis Dean. Attendees will enjoy an evening of music and mingling as they have encounters with native Georgia wildlife and hear from Conservancy scientists and environmental leaders. WonderRoot is a local arts organization that works to improve the cultural landscape of Atlanta through creative initiatives and community partnerships. The organization will host WonderRoot Artist Market at The Shed on the first Sunday of each month from noon-6pm. Guests can explore art from local makers, connect with community artists, and shop handcrafted wares. Vendor fees from the Artist and Maker Market fund WonderRoot’s creative youth development programs, and each month WonderRoot gives a free table for two makers to provide opportunity for underrepresented artists to sell their work.

The Dunwoody Art Festival, the largest art festival in Dunwoody, GA, takes place each year on Mother’s Day weekend at the Dunwoody Village Parkway. HBO and Sesame Workshop present “Sesame Street: F is for Friends,” a free mall tour inspired by the 48th season of Sesame Street. This immersive, limited-engagement tour includes a 15-minute show starring costumed Elmo and Abby Cadabby characters as well as stories and songs about celebrating similarities and differences between friends. Pre-schoolers and their families will learn that while we may be different from one another, we’re alike in so many ways, too! More than 60 of the species in our care, from Sumatran tigers to African slender-snouted crocodiles to western lowland gorillas, to many more, are classified as threatened, endangered or critically endangered. In order to preserve these species, Zoo Atlanta has become actively involved in numerous conservation projects around the globe. The 2018 Atlanta BeltLine Washington Park Jamboree and Play Day on Saturday, May 12, 2018, 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. is a free festival that will be held in historic Washington Park, one of the 45 neighborhoods connected by the Atlanta BeltLine. The festival – now in its fourth year and this year presented in partnership with Atlanta City Councilmember Ivory Lee Young – is open to the public and will feature a variety of fun activities, music, and games, all focused on promoting healthy and active living.
The Path to Fame Talent Competition is coming to Atlanta to host auditions on Saturday, May 12. Auditions take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Strand Theatre (117 N Park Square, Marietta, Georgia, 30060). Learn Farmview’s step-by-step process of making sausage blends, working with different types of casings, cooking methods and more.

Spend a Saturday morning immersing yourself in the world of the Rock House Creamery and Garden. You will meet beautiful dairy cows, learn about the creamline milk process from cow to bottle, and sample milk and Rock House Creamery’s delicious cheese curds! Following the dairy fun, you’ll visit the extensive vegetable gardens adjacent to the creamery, learning about the many aspects of the garden: what’s grown, who works there, and the diverse career paths that lead to agricultural work. You’ll get a hands-on, up-close experience with all aspects of the gardens, and possibly even help harvest a vegetable or two!
This experience is perfect for anyone interested in the back-story of milk or naturally grown produce, and it is a great family activity to get discussions going about where our food comes from. Suitable for all ages (accompanied by a parent), this Farmview Schoolhouse Field Trip is certain to delight anyone curious about agriculture, food growing or dairy operations.

Generation Infocus has just announced a Maker Space Grand Reveal in Historic Downtown Hapeville. The event will take place Saturday, May 19th from 12:00-3:00PM at 3578 South Fulton Avenue, Hapeville GA 30354. The organization will be welcome into the community with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Hapeville’s own Mayor Alan Hallman and the event with include various activities such as live music, vendors, prizes, snacks and tours of the new space. Children will be able to participate in hands-on activities like creating a Wearable Technology keychain, painting a rock for our rock garden, learning some new Yoga positions and much more!

Want an overview of the Museum’s newest exhibition, the 747 Experience? Take a tour! On the 4th Tuesday of each month, we offer a free guided tour with normal paid admission to the Museum. Tours begin promptly at 1pm, and last about 45 minutes. Reservations are not accepted. This tour highlights the exterior of the aircraft and its interior exhibits. Tour is handicap accessible, but will require a trek across the parking lot.
School’s out for summer! Celebrate the start of a summer season of learning and fun with Children’s Museum of Atlanta! At the CMA Stage, participate in our Beach Ball and Boogie Board Bonanza relay, or compete in our Limbo Luau game. After being crowned limbo champion, head to the Sand Tables to build and snap a picture of your best sand castle, or to sailboat creation stations to build your own boat and test to see if it will float or sink! As we all skip into summer together at CMA, sign up for a class in the Art Studio to make popsicle pop-art inspired by Andy Warhol. Before you leave, you’ll want to make sure to visit the Build It Lab to make a bubble wand that you can take up to the Summer Bash Bubble Bar upstairs in Step up to Science where you can explore bubbles of all shapes and sizes!
Finster Fest, the annual festival honoring the life and legacy of Summerville’s famous folk artist, the Rev. Howard Finster, will take over Paradise Garden on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, May 26-27, 2018. Once again, Finster Fest will be in Howard Finster’s art environment, Paradise Garden. The celebration this year will center on the marketplace of more than 50 artists, a majority of them self-taught, and regional music talent. The southern food fare includes BBQ, homemade pimento cheese sandwiches, and sweets will be offered.
After 18 years in software development, Lesli bailed on the corporate scene. When she’s not traveling, she’s hiking in the mountains or checking out Atlanta’s culinary scene, whiskey in hand.
