A slice of Asheville’s vibrant arts community is making its way to Atlanta this December. Love Asheville from Afar, a pop-up art gallery featuring works from Asheville artists impacted by Hurricane Helene, will open its doors at Ponce City Market on Thursday, December 5.
Nestled next to City Winery, the 3,600-square-foot gallery will operate Thursday through Sunday, 11 AM–7 PM, through December 29. Every penny from art sales will benefit Asheville artists who have suffered losses due to the devastating storm.
The gallery is more than a showcase—it’s a lifeline.
Hurricane Helene struck Asheville on September 27, unleashing flooding that ravaged the River Arts District, home to over 300 artist studios.
While Asheville is 300 miles from the nearest ocean, the storm’s torrential rains caused the French Broad River to overflow, inundating countless studios and diminishing this year’s critical tourism season. In the aftermath, many artists have faced displacement, destroyed works, and financial hardship.
Grand Opening Celebration
To mark its debut, Love Asheville from Afar will host a free grand opening event on Thursday, December 5, from 5–8 PM.
Guests can enjoy live music by LEAF Global Arts, sets by DJs Zati and Mesi, and festive bites from Asheville’s renowned French Broad Chocolates—recently highlighted as one of Oprah’s Favorite Things for 2024. Drinks will be provided by New Belgium Brewing, Burial Beer Co., and Chemist Spirits.
The event is open to the public, offering attendees the chance to mingle with participating artists and celebrate Asheville’s creative spirit.
Art and Artists
The gallery will feature a diverse array of works, including visual art, sculpture, and live painting demonstrations from artists like Kevin Andrew, Molly Sawyer, Shela Anmuth, Colton Dion, Zati, Amanda Emery, Parker Pfister, and Elizabeth Porritt Carrington.
In addition to these offerings, visitors can expect special events throughout the month that bring the Asheville arts experience to life.
“Today, Asheville is open—still stunning and standing—and Love Asheville from Afar will bring a little of what makes our town so special to Ponce City Market, all while supporting the Asheville artist community,” said Vic Isley, President & CEO of Explore Asheville.
“As Asheville comes back stronger than ever this winter, we can’t wait to welcome visitors to the River Arts District.”
A Mission to Rebuild
The gallery is made possible through the collaboration of the River Arts District Artists (RADA) Foundation, The Radical Hotel, Explore Asheville, and Jamestown.
Proceeds from the pop-up will be distributed to artists who were displaced, lost artwork, or suffered financially after the hurricane. Donations can also be made directly to the RADA Foundation, which is focused on sustaining and rebuilding Asheville’s cherished River Arts District.
Asheville, known for its creative soul and breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountain setting, has long been a haven for artists and makers. This pop-up gallery represents a step forward in the city’s recovery, inviting Atlantans to not only experience Asheville’s unique artistry but to support the community’s rebuilding efforts.
