8 Fahrenheit: Atlanta’s new rolled ice cream sensation [video]

It’s hot outside. HOT! Want something that will cool you off, entertain the kids, and not break the bank?? Head to 8 Degrees Fahrenheit…STAT!

8 degrees Fahrenheit

You’ll pick your flavor…from chocolate to strawberry, and mango to green tea. Then pick three toppings. We love whipped cream, chocolate chips, gummy bears, graham crackers…you get the idea.

Pay for your ice cream then watch through the glass as one of three ice cream wizards prepare your dessert right before your eyes. Real cream and your selected flavorings or fruit are poured on an 8-degree steel surface (cooled by dry ice, I am guessing.)  They mix and spread until the cream is firm, and then scrape it into bite-size “rolls,” add your toppings, and voila! Amazing, creamy ice cream!

Honestly, it is difficult to actually capture with words how FUN this is for kids (and adults!) to watch…so please check out our video above!

There is only one size, and it is big enough for two people to enjoy…though you’ll want to get more than one flavor! Cups are about $5. Cards accepted and tips appreciated.

It can seem crowded, but time goes fast while you watch the ice cream being made. There are seats inside and outside, or you can get it to go.

This is, BY FAR, my favorite ice cream stop in the city. Your kids are going to LOVE IT!

I owe a special thanks to Akila from Atlanta Food Walks for the private food and history tour of Buford Highway last spring (more on that in a few weeks!) She is the one who introduced me to the amazing 8 Degrees Fahrenheit’s ice cream craziness!
